An interesting story about a stranded ballet dancer and her theatre where she painted an audience into her often empty hall. The whole place could use a coat of paint and TLC. The guide was nice and allowed us time to look around. Worth the $5 charge for the experience.

You need to go to hotel office were for $5 a person they take you into the opera house and recount the history up to the present. Spend some time with guide and heard some interesting history of old miners and such. This included ghost tales which our teenager really enjoyed. Well worth the time and money. Would have liked... Ok, lots of different opinions in our group of 2 60 year olds and their 3 adult children. 1 60 year old found the beds uncomfortable, the air cold, and the cracks in the wall not very endearing. One 20 something agreed with me. The other three found the place charming but creepy. We did like the fireplace, the ability... More

Do stop by and see this unique opera house....it has lots of interesting rooms handpainted by the ballet dancer Marta. Go to the office for the tour....it is $5 but worth it.... Enjoy.

We stopped in for an hour or so on our way to Death Valley, so this review is not of the hotel but rather the opera house itself. When we arrived, the opera house was closed! Very disappointing as my daughter had seen it on Ghost Adventures and was very excited about seeing the building. So we walked over to... More

Kind of a quaint, qwerky, bare bones hotel. 2 beds and a shower. All okay. No amenities in room at all. Coffee in lobby if you can find it. No staff on site until 8:00 am. So if you are an early riser, don't expect coffee. Wifi in lobby only.

There is an improbable, but true story of a New York dancer captivated by a building in the desert. She renovated the building and made it her personal performance space, painting her audience on the walls.

We had the pleasure of watching Jenna McClintock perform ballet at this unique and beautiful opera house near Death Valley. She was awesome and is taking up for the owner Marta Beckett. The paintings in the opera house were super!

The Opera House, while it may or may not be one of a kind, is certainly unique. There was no performance while we were there, but we did take the tour, and were amazed at what had been wrought. The amount of work which went into preparing the place for the ballets can only be imagined, but the loving effort... More

Death Valley Junction is almost a ghost town, with derelict buildings remaining from earlier mining days. Five people live there now and maintain an incredible tradition, started by dancer/artist Marta Becket 50 years ago, and now continued by Jenna McClintock. Both were professional dancers, in NY and Oakland. Marta created the Amargosa Opera House from sheer will, cleaning and painting... More
