The Parkway runs through the Colonial National Historic Park connecting Yorktown and Jamestown running by Colonial Williamsburg as well. It's a nice, scenic road connecting these areas with little traffic (for us). I suspect the traffic could be high in the summer. There is a low speed limit, sp drive slow and enjoy the ride, view, and history.

Whoever came up with this idea deserves a raise and a promotion because it connects the three most important sites on the peninsula bounded by the York and James rivers - Jamestowne, Williamsburg, and Yorktown. It is the quickest road for access between these sites and the Jamestowne-Scotland Ferry dock next to the Glass House at Jamestowne. What makes it... More

The Colonial Parkway offers a peaceful, relaxing drive between Yorktown, Williamsburg, and Jamestown. The speed limit is 45 mph most of the way on this two lane road. The bulk of the drive is through nice forested areas but parallels the York River approaching Yorktown and the James River near Jamestown. There are often naval cargo ships to be sure... More

Colonial Parkway is a great bike friendly route. We enjoy riding from the Yorktown village to Merchants Square in Williamsburg for lunch.

Wonderful drive between Yorktown, Jamestown, and Williamsburg. Off the beaten track, as there are no amenities on the parkway, just lots of beautiful views of unspoiled nature. Enjoyed it so much that I almost ran out of gas. Gas stations are off the parkway so beware.

No matter what time of year, this is the perfect drive. My advice... pack a picnic basket and blanket and drive til you find a spot that says "this is the place" and enjoy the view and sounds of the river with the one you love.

Place on your to-do list when in the Williamsburg/Yorktown area. A scenic drive through areas that are unspoiled with views of the York and James Rivers and Chesapeake Bay. Be sure and stop in Yorktown and tour the American Revolutionary Museum and of course visit the original Jamestowne Settlement National Park where excavation of artifacts is still going on today.

The Colonial Parkway is probably my all-time favorite scenic drive - which is saying something since I have lived all over this great country. We always visit when the leaves are changing, which just adds to the experience. It makes the driving between the historic triangle attractions more than enjoyable. It's nice to have it always as I have remembered... More

The Colonial Parkway runs from Yorktown, under Williamsburg, and to Jamestown, and has not changed in 50 years; that’s the way it should be. No businesses or residential areas along the route. Woods and a few pull-offs for scenic views. Not recommended for bicycles – the pavement is not smooth.
