We were blessed with a beautiful November day with pleasant weather for our hike back to the Fort Bowie ruins. The trails are well kept. There are many interesting interpretive signs along the way. One of the curators played the bugle as we were approaching the fort ruins. It was like stepping back in time, I expected to see the... More

Our trip to Fort Bowie was very well worth the hike. I love the history of Arizona. The volunteer was especially helpful.

Beautifully kept up by the Rangers there! Thank you for keeping this for future generations. If only the Park Service could receive more funding to keep the visitor center open year round ;(

Be preoared to drive avout 6 miles of dirt road to get to parking lot. Although it is only 1.5 miles to get to Visitor Center, there is a climb of 800 feet elevation. Trails are marked well. I do not recommend this hike for toddlers, unless in back pack. Volunteers from Ft. Huachuca rode out to cemetary to recognize... More

We have visited several NHS forts and this one was the biggest challenge to access. First you drive about 8 miles down a gravel road and then you hike 1.5+ miles to get to the fort ruins & visitor's center 😮. The park staff are very helpful telling you about the history of the park (no movie). The most beautiful... More

The fort ruins are a 1 1/2 mile hike off the South Apache Pass road outside of Willcox, AZ. It's dirt road to get there but ok for cars. All-wheel drive would be nice to have. The scenery along the road is great. Be careful on the roads and stay right over blind hills on the dirt road. RV's go... More

We drove to Fort Bowie from Chiricahua NM using the dirt road. The road is well maintained and we had no problems driving our non 4 wheel drive sedan. The displays at the visitor center are very interesting and the staff was very friendly.

It's quite a walk to see this site, but well worth the walk. It has been rebuilt and in very good condition. The history of the site is well told.

I made the mistake of deciding to visit Ft. Bowie at 2 pm in the middle of June. Things started badly in the parking lot, which is at the trail head, which had a major yellow jacket infestation. After dodging the yellow jackets successfully, we were on the trail head. It starts with a fairly steep drop and then covers... More

We hiked in and had a wonderful time. The explaination of the Bascom affair and how everything went down was great.
