I very much like to walk city streets on my own, making discoveries as I go. But sometimes it's better to get a good overview of a spread out place, and if you have any interest in Harlem, this is a great place to get...More

I highly recommend the Harlem Heritage walking tour! The highlights had to be my tour guide, Andy Owens, and "Mr. Apollo", Billy Mitchell, who both provided their own perspective about the rich culture, history, and politics of Harlem. Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it!

I am ready to give the Harlem Heritage Tours another chance. I am looking at the Gospel Music Tour and am wondering if anyone has taken it recently and if so, could you tell me how this tour is organized. Do we attend an actual service? I noticed it is about four hours long and includes some walking. We have taken several of the tours such as the architectural tour and I am wondering if they repeat this or do they focus mainly on gospel Music, churches, etc. What would be appropriate attire? Are they located in the same place as they have in the past or have they moved. I know they were either moving or remodeling. In the past, we have had a very elderly leader who was wonderful. I wonder if he is still available for tours. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Are children allowed or is the tour not suitable for kids as well? We are a family of 8 visiting mixed ages (59, 52, 45, 42, 17, 13, 10, and 7). Also, are there any tours offered on Sunday after main church services take place or only weekend. We would like to visit the Harlem area on one day if possible and we would like to attend church in that area if possible while we are visiting over a 4 day period to NYC. Thanks.
