Huge selection graded by age and type. Live readings for children. Roomy and well lit, helpful staff if you're buying gifts for little ones. Like so many small businesses, BoW is threatened by rising rents. Go now!

BOW is the perfect spot to bring your kids no matter how old! There are so many books to choose from, and obviously chosen carefully for their clientele. No "oldies" taking up space. Every section is well stocked and appealing to look at. Take a few and get comfy while perusing. You'll feel right at home! The staff is so... More

This little gem might have been my favorite part of NYC. I could have spent all day looking at the old and rare books. My 13 year old requested a page turner and the staff were more than willing to accommodate. In fact, the young lady was so excited about the book recommendation that I am going to read it... More

I have been getting books from Books of Wonder for more than thirty years but never actually visited the store. Today, we took the train to NYC specifically to go to Books of Wonder. What a delightful store! We spent at least 2 hours in the store purchasing books for our 14 year old son and young grandchildren!

Wonderful selection of children and young adult books. Be sure to check out the back corner of the store that contains rare and older books, including first editions and signed copies! Helpful staff who seem to truly enjoy their job.

I must preface my review with the fact that I am a children's writer. However, I went into Books of Wonder last week without announcing myself, just to browse around. Within a minute of getting there, I was approached by an employee who asked if I needed any help. I declined and browsed around on my own. Several employees were... More

I worked in a bookstore for seven years so I can say without doubt that this is one of the best in the world. Yes, they only stock children's books but don't let that deter you. There's a wonderful selection all the way from babies board books to young adult titles. Loved the classic section. Madeline, hungry caterpillar, etc. The... More

My friend and I thought we were just going to a general bookstore, but it turns out it's a children's bookstore. We wanted to check out any other bookstores in NYC to see how they cmpared to The Strand. We should've just stuck to The Strand. However, this does not mean this bookstore was bad, only limited.

This is more than a book store to us, and the fact that it still exists is a wonder in itself. We started coming here when my daughter was five and the bookstore now a regular stop when ever we are in the neighborhood. If you have kids who love to read or you were ever a kid who loved... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighbourhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
