Taking this tram was one of the best things I did on my trip. It offered such great views of the city and was a smooth ride to the island. Definitely recommend, even if you just ride it over and back.

It is really cool - but it's over so quickly! On Roosevelt Island there's a coffee shop around the corner from the terminal but there's not much else to linger for so a lot of people just go over and back for the ride -...More

Same price as the subway, and far more scenic. Great views of the city as you go high above the traffic. I'm counting off one point because when I returned to Manhattan just past sunset they had gone down to 1 tram instead of 2...More

The tram is easily located at the other end of the block from the Lexington Ave/59th street N,Q or R subway stop. As I had a metrocard it was included. The views of the bridge and the city from the tram (cablecar) itself are interesting...More

For the cost of a subway ride (free transfer if you took the subway to get here), you get a decent view of some of the Manhattan Skyline and the East River. Limited seating, and do not ride if you are afraid of heights. A...More

A short trip with a great view of the East River and it's bridges, and the tops of Manhattan buildings. Roosevelt Island is interesting, especially if you study it's history as Welfare Island.

Used our 7 day mta subway pass to use this service from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island. We then got the subway from the island to Queens. A quick walk around Roosevelt Island will suffice as there is not much to get excited about. We visited...More

This is the only thing about the MTA I like as a New Yorker. You get some great views of the city and a fun, alternative method of transportation to check out. Especially worth it if you have any sort of unlimited Metrocard.

The aerial tram gives you a nice overview of the city on your way to Roosenvelt Island. You pay with your Metro card so there are no additional fees if you ahve a day or week ticket. There is not a whole lot to do...More

NYMTA Subway fare is $2.75 but due to go up. It is useable on Tram, subways, and buses. Get at ticket machines or at station booths.
when you get on can you stay on for the return or do you have to get off and get on another one? also is there an operator on board?

you do have to get off and reswipe your MetroCard but there was an operator on our tram.
Do you just ride and come back? or is there something to do on Roosevelt Island?

It's just a ride and you can come straight back. Nothing much at the other end but we had a quiet walk on the river side and park
