I know, I know... What kind of person takes kids to the film Forum to see a documentary about restoration of Bosch paintings? Apparently we do. Sorry other movie goers. Actually, it was fine. It was the grandparents idea of fun with the grand kids. For a general audience this is your classic art house theater. The films are all... More

Where a courteous, mature group come together to get their Art History fix. Went to see the film of the coming together of the Bosch collection... I left feeling I learned more in one seating than from my entire semester at university. Got to use a different side of my brain for a change to process all this new knowledge... More

Film Forum presents two distinct, complementary film programs – NYC theatrical premieres of American independents and foreign art films, programmed by Karen Cooper and Mike Maggiore; and, since 1987, repertory selections including foreign and American classics, genre works, festivals and directors' retrospectives, programmed by Bruce Goldstein. Their third screen is dedicated to extended runs of popular selections from both programs,... More

It is a good idea to see what films are playing if you enjoy independent and foreign films. This is an iconic theater.

This is a not so hidden gem in the West Village. We have seen some great classic, film noir and indie movies over the years. Most recently we saw a double feature of Dames and Gold Diggers of 1933. Small, intimate theatres with comfy seats. Good, clear sound.

It is rare when i don't want to see something at this theater; this place is a winner. There are so few theaters anywhere that explore series with the resolution of the Film Forum. Recently, I saw the Apu Trilogy and some of the De Sica retrospective. And I appreciate that the audience will not hesitate to berate a cell... More

I never thought of reviewing Film Forum for TripAdvisor, but friends who live outside of New York inform me that this is a unique place and that people in New York take it for granted. I would be heartbroken if it closed, so I am writing this review to encourage readers -- New Yorkers and tourists -- to spend some... More

Worth a trip for film buffs when special collections are showing. Great movies from around the world. Most seats are excellent. Great popcorn. Good educational materials for kids of many ages.

Hiding just West of 6th Ave on Houston St is this unique non-for profit movie theater started in 1970. After changing several locations, it eventually ended up here. I am not a fan of many of the ugly pictures they show, however, this is one of probably only three (together with IFC & Angelica) movie theaters in NYC with different... More
