Klimt portrait show and info on the painter and his time in Vienna was outstanding. The highlight is of course the portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, made famous by the movie Woman In Gold. This is a show that puts the artists work into a grand home to be viewed as they were meant to be. The gold portrait is one... More

Finally, we visited the Neue Galerie which was the first visit and our second time that we went to Café Sabarsky which is inside this gallery. I would like to call this collection a museum but sadly the collection is quite small with only two small floors of art. Inside these two floors, there are some truly amazing pieces but... More

This museum is worth the visit and price of admission just to see the woman in gold. There's other great artwork, but that one piece of art is amazing.

Neue Gallery is not a big, but wonderful place to visit. The main collection consists of works of German and Austrian artists of late 19th and early 20th century. The main attraction: Gustav Klimt. The museum also hosts various temporary exhibits and events. Cafe Sabarsky and Cafe Fledermaus have quite reputation as well.

The current exhibit, The Women of Klimt, was our main reason to visit NYC. It was very nice to see the Woman in Gold. The other women were equally beautiful. I very much enjoyed the unfinished painting that he was working on when he died. The third floor I did not like. The art seemed very disturbing. If this is... More

The works on display represent only a small selection of the best of Austrian and Germany artists but what is here is a 'must see'. The audio guide is especially informative particularly if your knowledge of this period is limited. If you like Klimt then this is the gallery for you.

This is an outstanding art gallery. The second floor Klimt exhibition currently dominates the space and is beautifully curated: the hand-held guide covers just enough exhibits to enable a steady progression through the rooms. Be sure to look at the silver items in the central showcases: there are guides to them on laminated sheets to the left on entering the... More

This is a comparatively small gallery, highlighted by Gustav Klimt. The upper floor is given to a collection of Austrian and German post-impressionist art, including some early-20th-century furniture.

The artists here represented must be turning in their graves. Their work, a monument to the best in the German spirit, is hung in an atmosphere of repression and control which speaks to its worst manifestations. The staff are unspeakably rude, the rules absurd and the irony of this being juxtaposed with the art is an awful joke,

an amazing exhibit, on every floor. But, don't leave without seeing Klimt on the 2nd floor. The women in gold is simply remarkable. Leave time for a stop is the cafe for the best coffee we have ever had. Oh, don't forget the desserts they were perfect. If you want you can make reservations for breakfast or lunch in the... More

Staying in Upper East Side

Neighbourhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighbourhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighbourhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
