Their tag line is "18 Miles of Books." With over 2.5 million new, used, and RARE books, The Strand is a place where you could easily lose a few hours just meandering around. I love books and consider myself a collector, but I also spent lots of time choosing some unique gifts. Something for everyone.

I was never exposed to such a huge amount of reading possibilities in front of my eyes. Many accesible options for all kind of audiences. Employees very servicial and efficient. I was overwhelmed but managed to pick on book at the end. I definitely have to go back there and explore it more thoroughly.

I love independent bookstores and The Strand didn't disappoint (though Northshire Bookstore in Manchester, Vermont remains my favorite). Besides a huge inventory of books there are lots of quirky gifts to give or to keep including t-shirts, mugs, socks, stickers, buttons, etc. I liked the many tables of books displayed according to a theme. The only thing needed are a... More

We just visited here for the first time on April 14. THIS is a bibliophiles dream. Advertising 18 square miles of books over 4 floors, there is an amazing amount of books and bibliophilic treats here though they also have some vinyl, clothing, etc. The staff is not only friendly and helpful, but incredibly knowledgeable. We had to limit our... More

We went in here on a whim and came out laden with books and other great little gifts. This is a store you can spend hours in (and we did, entirely by accident).

Our visit to the Strand was purely accidental. My wife and I were following the trail of a vinyl store in area. It wasn't opened so we walked into The Strand...Thank you record store for not being open. We were traveling from Texas, my son was attending orientation at NYU. We've been to NY 6-7 times over the last couple... More

Excellent store for books and giftware. Check out the upper floor rare books. Good value and excellent, abundant staff. It was busy, but not overcrowded. Also hot in there.

I could spend hours in this book store looking at the rare book section, browsing all of the different types of genres of books and hanging out in their basement, which was very nostalgic and reminiscent of the bookstore. If you are a book lover, please visit!!

The Strand, with its very special atmosphere, lines and lines of bookshelfs catering all tastes and interests, is an absolute heaven for bookworms. Never before and nowhere has a bookstore evoked this kind of amazing feeling of being in a sanctuary.
