I took this tour while on a business trip to NY with my co-worker who is a foodie. Our tour guide was Melanie, who was very friendly and full of really interesting information about the history of Hell's Kitchen and all the restaurants & shops we visited. The 3-hour walk went by quickly and we had plenty of opportunities to... More

My partner and I decided to purchase this tour for my best friend who's a true foodie and lives in Staten Island. We got a few friends together and took the tour. I LOVED learning the history of Hell's Kitchen and hearing the little tidbits only locals would know - ie. why is there a huge courtyard in the middle... More

Melanie - the tour guide - was warm and passionate and such a unique, unforgettable character. Having grown up in the area, she had stories galore. Fascinating histories and anecdotes and quirky humour thrown in for good measure. The taster choices were so completely yum. My favourite was the very first - at Empanada Mama - I had the chicken... A culinary walking tour of Hell’s Kitchen? Who would have thought it? It just shows that it pays to click deep on TONY website to reveal little treasures like this. Kicking off with crunchy corn crusted empanadas at Empanada Mama on 9th,we worked our way through some sublime spinach pie at the Poseidon Bakery, served by Lily the boss -... More

We had the pleasure of touring Hell's Kitchen through Rum and Blackbird Tours. Our guide, Jody Mullen, was fantastic! He was both friendly and knowledgable in both the history of the HK area, and the food stops we made. We toured with another couple (long-time friends) and it was just the four of us and Jody. Had a great time... More

Our hotel is close to Hells Kitchen and we wanted to do a walking/tasting tour so we could get comfortable with the area. We were lucky that it was just us and our guide Melanie. We had several yummy tastings, visited cool foodie and fresh food markets, learnt all about the history of Hell's Kitchen and Melanie also answered any... More

I've done a few food tours around the city - each one with its own charm. The Hell's Kitchen experience was a private tour headed by Jody, an enthusiastic guide who seemed to genuinely enjoy filling us in on the land of Mickey Spillane. The tastings were all delicious and varied; I've already been back to Empanada Mama. I highly... More

We have done a number of the food tours in the city, the Hell's Kitchen tour is definitely one of the best. We learned about quite a few restaurants that we would normally just walk by, but now want to go back and try. Our guide Jody was one of the best guides we have had,he is animated and interesting... After years of eating mediocre food and paying ridiculous prices in Times Square, I now have a list of great restaurants to visit a few blocks away in Hell's Kitchen thanks to Rum and Blackbird. I spent a pleasant afternoon with Jody on a private tour, which included lots of great food, lots of information about the neighborhood, and lots... More

We had a great time on our food tour! Jody was very knowledgable and passionate about the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood. He showed us some hidden gems, shared interesting facts and took us to some amazing mom and pop type establishments. The tour included 5 tastings which left us both full and happy. I will be returning to many of the... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
