    Expensive skating session!
We booked to go ice skating before our trip, was easy to book. We had booked for 7pm, but I had expected a better signposted / well-lit path in Central Park. Myself and daughter had to use google maps to find it! I had noticed about an hour before we went that you had to sign a waiver, would be better if this was emailed out to anyone who has purchased tickets. I had deliberately not taken a bag so we wouldn't need a locker, but they don't store your shoes when they give you your skates - you have to get a locker which cost $7!! It wasn't busy and I had seen the ice cut schedule was 7.30pm but this didn't happen! I fell and seriously hurt my shoulder (which I know is a risk) but no staff came to help me at all. As it continued to hurt I went to an office to ask if I could have an ice pack for my shoulder, I was taken to a room (right opposite where I fell ) where the girl said oh are you the lady that just fell over! She didn't even look at my shoulder, gave me some ice in a glove and some packets of ibruprofen. The next day I realised the expiry date on them was 07/23!! Maybe not the best place to skate, but it was bigger than Bryant Park and not everywhere was open during our visit.

Efficient service during busy holiday season
Got tickets online as soon as they were available for our visit date which was the Friday before Christmas. Chose the first session of the morning to reduce being in crowds and it worked—line to enter moved quickly and was well organized (also did the release waiver online ahead of time), got in and started skating soon after with enough space to maneuver around small kids and a few inexperienced adults. Ice was mostly smooth, didn’t have any speeders weaving through, rink is large enough to not hurt thighs or ankles on tight corners, employees were friendly and efficient, and the view was of trees and buildings beyond them—I brought my own skates so cannot review theirs—lovely and very enjoyable experience skating here

    Very Crowded
Ever since watching the movie Serendipity, I've always wanted to go to the ice rink in Central Park. Let's just say it's better in the movie. Extremely crowded. Definitely a great photo opp but that's about it. If you actually plan to skate, plan on being in a very long line and a good portion of your time being consumed. Yes, very nostalgic but unless this is a bucket list, I recommend walking around, getting some photos and moving on. Many art vendors, horses and carriages, bad smells and hoards of people during the Christmas season. The area around the rink is beaten down by all the foot traffic. I honestly wasn't impressed and will stick with my movie version in my mind.

    Beautiful Setting!
Visited as a family of 5 - with skate hire it was about £130 so not cheap. It was however great fun and very iconic to go ice skating in Central Park. We found the staff to be unfriendly and quite disinterested. We still had a great time and would definitely return..... albeit not this holiday as we can't justify the cost again!

Yes, the views were wonderful. We were there during one of the last few days the rink is open to the public, so it was "community day" (free admission). We expected it to be packed, and it was. The staff did seem quite annoyed that we were there to rent skates along with the other 200+ people. That's fine though, I can relate to being young and annoyed to be at work. The waiting area outside was PACKED and filthy.

My 5 year old got one of the skate aides. We were on the ramp to get onto the ice and I was following closely behind my her and before my daughter or myself had the chance to step foot on the ice, I was being yelled at by a woman who I thought was a local at first. She was going on about me doing something incorrectly, or too slowly, but we were ALL literally shoulder to shoulder, shuffling our way out. I was baffled, and as she continued yelling at me, hand motions, rolled eyes and all, I was being slowly nudged onto the ice. Still zero clue what I had done wrong, but it was a disappointing experience that tainted mine and my daughter's first time ice skating.

Aside from all of that, as a complete beginner, I was frightened to leave the wall because there were just SO MANY people skating. The staff had to come on the loud speaker at one point to pull three people off of the ice that were FLYING around the rink. Even after that, some were still going pretty fast and otherwise, there were just a ton of people on the ice at once, making it hard to feel safe.

My husband has some experience skating and had a blast skating around a few times before we left. Will probably try the other rinks next time we visit.

Very average ice rink. Staff weren’t very enthused and half of the rink was closed off. To be fair it was what it was, no real complaints, but probably wouldn’t have bothered in hindsight.

I visited with my 10 year old daughter and 7 years old son for 10 am slot again we got down to ice it was 10 35 ice was cut at 11. We had other things booked so left at 11. When we got inside to leave boots the locker and skate rental area was extremely crowded my 7 year old son got lost in the crowd. I asked the worker on door did he see a boy exit on his own she replied no. He managed to make his was out the exit which is manned by a rink worker through a gate also manned by a security guard and out into Central Park all the way to rocks at far side of spectators deck facing on to the rink ! Luckily my husband was up there and when I realised he had got lost in the crowd I rang him to check the outter areas. Staff were poor to respond to the situation and the time it took them to react my husband had located our son. We visited 29th December 2023 and far too many people herded in. Very easy to get unattached to your family members.

We booked tickets online for a 30 minute time slot in the afternoon. We showed up 10 minutes early and there was probably a 1/4-1/3 mile long line to get in.

Why make it seem like you a deserving a spot online when that in fact means nothing and you have to wait 90 minutes in line to get in? You feel like you can’t scrap the activity because it’s $50/person for time on the rink + skates.

Total rip off. Would not recommend to anyone ever.

Skates beyond their used by old blunt and uncomfortable. Terribly managed entry. Requirement to sign waiver before entry not clearly communicated before arrival. Caused delays and issues for those not from NY and with no internet. Too busy. Truly terrible experience. Sad given it’s such an institution. Don’t bother.

Needs New Management.
My daughter and I went skating here on a trip to NY.
I guess we expected large crowds but everything seemed chaotic and little care had been taken to make the place feel festive.
The staff are dis-interested and rude; The marshalls on the ice are out of control...more interested in chatting to their mates and then skating around at ferocious speeds which makes the whole rink feel unsafe.
The ice itself was deeply rutted making it dangerous and unstable.
The rink has been going for years but now needs new management.
