Thank you for visiting the Top! And thank you for your encouragement to others to visit! January is often a quiet time to visit the Top, even pre-COVID, however we have measures in place now to limit guest capacity in order to allow for distancing on our 3 decks.

Tried to get tickets to skates but tickets were sold out days in advance. So plan accordingly . This was a last minute trip day after New Years so it was not in the cards for us. Rockefeller is blocked off so you can’t get too close nor can you see ice rink. Also many streets to site are blocked. Tree Lights go out at exactly 10pm so get there early for pictures by tree.. not as much social distancing by tree — since site is blocked off and you can only get but so close (so this encourages crowds- so safety efforts here are counterintuitive). Only place I actually saw crowds in NYC with little to no social distancing (even Times Square was better). Good news is everyone was wearing masks.

This is a free, fun activity to do in NYC. First of all, there is a TON of outstanding Art Deco architecture around here, in addition to sculptures. The impressive, towering 30 Rock is also here. In the winter. Rockefeller center hosts ice skating in the winter and outdoor dining in the summer. There are shops and storefront windows to explore (including the Nintendo store). There is also “top of the rock,” which I haven’t been to (pandemic), but is supposed to have amazing cocktails and views. During the holidays, there is the famous tree, and tons of fun Christmas and new year’s decorations. The sak’s fifth ave light and music show. In the direct vicinity is Saturday Night Live tapings, Radio City Music Hall, and guided tours of NBC studios. There are also tons of Instagrammable photo ops, including the Prometheus statue and fountains.

I worked in 30 Rock for years - and have always loved it. Fantastic views, steeped in history, and easy to get in and out.

Another year...another lovely display. Things are a bit difference this year due to COVID though. Like I usually do to take photos, I go in the early morning. Since the tree is lit at 6 AM and the sun rises at about 7:15, you still have a lot of time to get some great photos without anyone being in the plaza area. I went on a Tuesday morning and it was empty with only passers by stopping to snap a quick pic. As always though, NO TRIPODS allowed. There are lots of guards and cops around that will remind you of that. Besides from the main plaza on 5th avenue, you can also enter on 5th or 6th avenues on 49th or 51st streets. If you go during busier times, you will be asked to wait in "pods" or ground markings to limited over crowding. I went when it was empty, so i didn't have to wait, but I read from other reviews that the wait times were quick because each pod only gets about 5 mins to snap their photos and then move on. it actually seems like an efficient system. Of course, masks and distancing are enforced during your visit.
