No matter how it sounds crazy, this is the oldest part of this world megapolis, from where it all began. The almost only cobbled streets in NYC you'll find here.
It was pretty close to our hotel in downtown Manhattan so we visited several times.
During the day it's pretty boring and deserted, while it comes alive at night with many bars and small restaurants.

During the day, it is an historical quaint place to stroll and soak up the history. At night, it comes alive with music and bar hoppers. The best of both worlds.

Stone street is a historic street downtown with cobblestone streets. The restaurants, pubs and bars have some history. You can bar hop without walking too far.

This is a very short street of old historic brick building hiding among the skyscrapers of lower Manhattan. The buildings house mostly bars and restaurants and is not a far walk from Wall Street and the NYSE. Worth the walk, especially since there is no vehicle traffic.

It's a tiny section with just a few streets but it was worth the visit. I specially loved Stone St. because it still has cobblestone and old buildings that remind you of Europe.
I'm glad the city still preserved this relic.

This is a neat small historic street with brick road lined with restaurants and taverns. About half a block long and neat to see.

in the middle of the city. Many very good eateries located here. Cobble stone streets and many heated "outdoor" dinning areas.

Amazing area to visit- historic, loaded w character and charm, plenty of restaurants w multiple types of cuisine to offer, brunch specials, drink specials- it was so wonderful to find, w reasonable prices for NYC! In the warmer months, tables are set up between the buildings and a whole new atmosphere develops! Must see any time of year!

Can anyone give me the time the streets were built with the Belgium granite and how they were cut and placed on the roadway. Was tar used? Thank you

I want to know the history of the Belgium granite stones and how they were made and then placed with tar to keep them in place? Are any of these stones available to purchase for historical values. Thank you, Russell

Hi, that is a part of history I'm not sure about. Sorry. You might be best to call the city info center to see if they can source answers.
