Top ways to experience Empire State Building
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

The VIEWS from the Empire State Building are fantastic.
I’d recommend the Express Pass. Be sure to say your an Express Pass when going up AND coming down. My group did the 86th floor and I was happy with that but I can imagine the 102nd had a better view. We had a clear skies day and it made for great pictures.
We are so happy you enjoyed the view. Thank you for choosing the Empire State Building!

Empire State Building is a must see!!
Very easy to book through the online service. The self-guided tour was fun and super informative. Incredible city views from the 80th, 86th and 102nd floors. We also booked the pre fix dinner at the State Grille. So good…our food was delicious and the service couldn’t have been better!
So glad that the Empire State Building exceeded your expectations. Thank you for your review.

A lot has been updated here since my last visit 10 years ago. Definitely worth visiting. Great experience at dusk to get the night lights for awesome photographs. Bought the experience via City Pass. Great idea, saved money too.

We had an awesome experience, grandkids loved it. The view was just great. I had to change my ticket times because of time constraints, Sharon was able to help me out with that. What a great person she is, very friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks Sharon....

    Amazing tour & fantastic guide
VIP Premium tour is worth the price. We were met at reception and taken on full guided tour of whole building. This avoids any queuing as you go to front of all lines and gains you access to all areas. Our guide, Reneeta, was fabulous. Her enthusiasm and wealth of information made for a very enjoyable and entertaining experience. Definitely great value for money and best way to see iconic New York attraction.
Thank you for the wonderful review and nice words about Renita. We will be sure to pass your message along.

An iconic must do but very busy
You cannot visit NYC without going to the top of Empire State. We paid extra to go at sunset and it was packed! I guess you could expect that really but I mean really packed! I am not sure what controls there were around the number of people getting in at this time or getting in early and staying there. There is not much room around the observation deck anyway. We still managed to elbow our way through to get our pictures and video. It is iconic and a must and despite the number of people I would still say do it
Thank you for making the Empire State Building sunset experience part of your New York stay. We hope to see you again.

    Amazing
Booked the private tour option which was so worth doing. Our guide Siobhan was amazing. Definitely recommend. The ESB is the best observation deck in NYC in my opinion , the others are amazing too but there is something extra special about ESB. Will always make a point to visit every time I am in NYC.
Thank you for choosing the VIP experience at The Empire State Building. We will be sure to let Siobhan know that you all had an amazing time.

    Amazing Views of New York
We had booked a time slot just before sunset which would definitely recommend. Very well organised allowing plenty of room for everyone to admire the views from each platform. We paid the extra to go right to the top,102nd floor, which was worth the money though if you are looking to take photos then floor 86th is the ideal floor. On entering before you take the escalator up to the viewing platforms you will read about the history of the building which makes very interesting reading and appreciating the work that went into construct such a fabulous ironic building.
So glad that the Empire State Building exceeded your expectations. Thank you for your review.

    Rude staff
We booked via go City. I precooked a time slot. On entry the man on the door was very rude demanding to see pass with no please or thank you and then this seemed to be with all staff in there except for a couple of guys. Other than that enjoyed the whole experience
Thank you for your feedback. This does not sound like to service we strive to provide for our guests. We would like to hear more about your stay. Please provide your confirmation number, date and time of your visit to roomtoimprove@esbonyc.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

    A must-see!
We went to the 86th floor. The views were stunning! The exhibits you walk through before taking the elevator to the observation deck are informative and very well done. We went at 9:00 AM on a Wednesday morning, and there was no wait. We didn't think it was worth it to pay the $35 extra to go to the observation deck in the spire on the 102nd floor, but it's something to consider.
Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our museum and gallery just as much as the view.

Arrived early and already a huge queue had formed, but it moved very quickly. The museum was fascinating. Spent quite a lot of time looking around. Enjoyed the interactive experience with King Kong and the aeroplanes flying around. Great views of New York and beyond (the weather was brilliant) . I would recommend going to the Empire State building before going to any other viewing skyscrapers but overall we had a very enjoyable morning.

My mother and I visited the Empire State Building. The museum-like info on the 2nd and 80th floors was included for all tickets. There was a bit of a line to get a photo with King Kong's hands breaking through the walls of the building, but very cool! You can go outside on the 86th floor deck where they had fresh made donuts just inside. Going up the 102nd floor, you couldn't go outside, but the view were spectacular with floor to ceiling glass windows. But taking the elevator down from 102 to 86, you get to bypass the line on the 86th floor to go down the remaining way. The line was quite long when we visited and we were thankful to be able to go quickly. All staff members were extremely helpful and friendly. They do take a group photo upon entry that is available for purchase when leaving.

I hadn’t been to this building for years. There are many other observation points in New York now but this is still a timeless classic.

We went at 9am on a Thursday - a great time to visit as there were no lines at all. This meant we could enjoy the exhibits on the ground floor at a leisurely pace and get some cheesy photos with King Kong and the construction workers before proceeding to the views at the observation deck.

Enjoy the Art deco of the building on the way out

As we had the City Pass we also had access in the evening. There were queues this time but manageable - plus we didn't need time with the exhibits.

Good to get the views during the evening seeing NY light up in its splendor. (
Be aware that people with the City Pass get a second entry in the evening so if your going at night try to avoid their earliest second entry time ! (9pm in April)

Very good. We arrived at our allocated time and day but were told that there was not visibility so they suggested that we change the day and time, which we did very easily. Best thing we did, since the following day, the weather was much better and visibility was excellent. No queueing, all was as expected. Really good.

We had purchased an all inclusive attraction ticket, and I'm not sure if I would have paid the ticket price for this attraction "just" to go up a building.

THE classic NYC observation deck experience. Brilliant views in a beautifully sunny day and also with a really interesting set of exhibits on the way up. We booked that morning for a morning slot and there was good availability although some time slots sold out. Not too much queueing - just a short wait for the elevator from 80th to 86th. Great all round experience!

Great cheat. Our tickets included access to the 86th floor, but one mafioso wanted 40$ extra. So he only let us go to the 80th floor which is behind windows and filled with crap. Stronzo!

I know there are multiple places to get a city view, but the Empire State Building is a classic. We did the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island the day before and that was not the best experience so we were nervous this would be similar. Our experience here was the exact opposite. Spending time learning and seeing how the building was built was really neat. My son and I especially liked the cameras showing what life was like in the 1920s. We also liked the videos clips of employees that were playing, we saw two of the ladies featured working that day. The employees were nice and the view was incredible. A classic NYC experience.
