Neighbourhood: Flatiron District
Offering many of city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets- much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighbourhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being the home of a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.

The Flatiron building was designed by Danial Burnham. From an elevated view it really does look exactly like an iron. Still under Renovation.

Glad to have visited here as, it was on my list of places to see in New York. However I was a little disappointed to see it converted in scaffolding. None the less glad I got to see it.

I had an outstanding food and history tour with Justin at 10:30 am on November 6th. Justin did a great job of explaining the history. The food was also exceptional.
Justin did an outstanding job and I highly recommend him for this tour or any of the other food and history tours he does of New York City.

This is a very cool and oddly shaped building. The architecture is quite interesting. It is currently undergoing some work so it’s not the best time to see it but it’s cool.

Difficult to rate the building as we only saw the facade, but set in a lovely part of town with plenty of outside bars & seating and great views of the Empire State.

Flatiron district is a bustling part of New York City and the highlight of the district, is the namesake building. The Flatiron Building is unique and makes for a rare sight. It is located in a heavily trafficked neighborhood with a number of restaurants, shops and Madison Square Park. Unfortunately during our visit, a portion of the building was covered in scaffolding, but the building still looked magnificent. It isn't nearly as tall as a number of other skyscrapers, but what it lacks in height, it makes up for in shape.

I wouldn't recommend going to the area just to see the building alone (there are a number of tourist attractions and eateries nearby), but if in the area, this is definitely worth a stop. The well-known Eataly is located opposite the Flatiron Building. Madison Square Park adjacent to the Flatiron Building is a great place to sit and take in some excellent views of the building!

Ok, so I’ve visited New York City a few times now and thankfully on previous visits I’ve been able to photograph the Flatiron building.

Having seen reviews back in May suggesting the building was covered in scaffolding, I figured “ah they’ll be doing some maintenance and will have it cleared by the summer, ready for the tourist season”

Unfortunately I was wrong, as of the 23rd July it is most definitely still covered in scaffolding!!!

Not worth the walk to see it - it was covered in scaffolding so was a disappointment.

Was hoping to get a sight of this iconic building but covered in scaffolding.

This Daniel Burnham designed building is very cool and from above it resembles an old iron. Currently getting a face lift.
