Entry fee of $10 per person, no charge with an NPS Senior Pass. We rode the elevator down 750 feet to self tour The Big Room. The tour through this area was a little over a mile walk with minimal lighting but enough so you...More

I am 65'wife 62. Definitely skip the elevator and do the walk down 800ft to the bottom(equivalent to walking down 75 stories). Don't forget your camera. Best done in the off season.

We took the natural entrance route and walked down the steep path. It gives you a great sense for the depth of the cavern. Along the way there are some very interesting formations as well. The path is steep but since it is paved with...More

We decided to walk down the original entrance to get a complete experience! It was great and dark (took awhile to adjust your eyes) and breathtaking. We rented the audio-tour that was very informative. Fascinating! It was not crowded, and at times we felt all...More

Highly recommend this tour as you go into 4 rooms that general public admission doesn't get to see. Best part was our Ranger/tour guide "Mark" who gave an informative and entertaining narrative that included gelogy, Jim White discovery of the caverns, and development into the...More

Plan for a good few hours of walking and seeing amazing things. My daughter and I walked down into the caverns, toured the entire area and walked back up instead of taking the elevator. Worth every step! Stayed for the bat flight and was awed...More

This is another great park in the NP collection. Go early to avoid the crowds, as the wait for the elevator back up to the surface can for 45 minutes or longer. (It takes 25 minutes to walk out, uphill nearly all the way). The...More

We took the self guided tour and entered via the natural entrance. The path is paved and although the light is dim, there is light throughout the cave. It has many interesting sights along the path and in the Big Room in the cavern there...More

Self guided tour included in the National parks annual pass. Not a very special cave but worth to visit in case you are in the the Carlsbad vicinity. We did not watch the bats, we will do next time.

You might be able to see bats in the sky in the surrounding area but check the park website. It should have the times listed where the bats actually start to fly out.

I think I saw that, yes some areas are but not all the paths down inside the Cave. There is an elevator that can take you down below. Might want to check the website.
