We were staying in Wellfleet for a week and excited to tackle the longest trail in the National Seashore. We visited on a morning at low tide, which I highly recommend - the bay side beaches are wide and you can walk on packed sand,...More

While visiting a friend in Providence we thought we'd take a trip to the Cape, check it out and do some hiking. We prefer easy to moderate hikes, good views with not a lot of people. This trail delivered all of that. The sandy part...More

You can walk all the way out to Jeremy point on this hike. You go around a marsh up a hill through the woods, around a second marsh a bit more forest then on to the end. Bring plenty of water

What a perfect day! We arrived at parking lot around 11;30 or noon- it's a bit confusing to find the actual trail, we circled a bit before figuring out which direction to head. You have to walk down towards marsh, and head to the right to...More

Wonderful views of the bay, large sand dunes, and wildlife. Soft sand makes the walk moderate, but others not too hard. Be sure to be mindful of the tides as sections of trails will get flooded.

I love this walk. Give yourself a day and take your time going all the way around. Watch for high tide, though - you might not be able to leave without wet feet! Great wildlife - Monarchs on Goldenrod - lots of crabs! - and...More

We rarely encounter many people on this trail. Perhaps the word has gotten out that it is not for the casual hiker. Sandy trails, no shade, and tidal transformations can take their toll, so follow the advice of some of the other reviewers and plan...More

This is at least a seven mile walk if you do the entire loop. It's loose sand on the ocean side which is difficult walking. On the "gut" side it was harder land but depending on the tide it could be wet. there was a...More

I love the National Seashire hikes. I have never been able to complete this trail. I first tried in my twenties. I was an advid hiker walking three hours a day & I still had trouble. I'm a year rounder so I have many opportunities....More

Dear JW: Good question! The National Park Service offers a couple of guide documents and maps online. Do a Web search for "National Park Service" plus "Great Island" plus "filetype:pdf". The complete trail is a loop that... More
