The ship, planes, helicopters, and audio tour are great, but the Docents and their experiences will take your breath away! Talk to as many of them as you can! We had the good fortune to speak with Gil Rud, a Vietnam-era fighter pilot who went on to captain an air craft carrier and fly in the #1 spot as commander of the Blue Angels. Words don't do him justice. Because of his humility, he never mentioned his credentials. A fellow Docent told us about him. Don't overlook the small display about Operation Frequent Wind inside the ship. It open your eyes to the humanitarian efforts our military can provide. Touching.❤

One of the most unique museums in the US. Very clean, well laid out. Incredible experience to be on an actual aircraft carrier! The number and varieties of planes onboard are astounding. People and kids interested in military or aviation can easily spend hours here. Bring water and sunscreen. The guides/docents are enthusiastic veterans who are knowledgable and informative.

It's like going to museum but instead of audioguides and reading placards, you have tons of expert veterans around to present the content to you. Many of the indoor exhibits are closed and to their credit, they make sure to inform you before they sell you the ticket. $26 a person was a little steep I thought but by the end I felt it was well deserved. This is quite a unique museum in that it's filled with friendly and knowledgeable veterans wearing yellow hats who will answer all of your questions about the Midway, Carriers, ships and aircraft. You get a free audioguide which is in its own right well done but you get much more by engaging with the staff who are always eager to educate. I highly suggest you visit and listen to the in-person presentations conducted by the staff.

Admittedly, we were not planning to stop here. It was on our potential list but with everything else we did including some relaxation time, it was not planned. We had some time before our flight home and decided to say what the heck and just stop in. SOO glad we did. This is just an amazing thing to do all around -- seeing and taking in just the sheer size of the ship to begin with but then to also read , hear and touch history was just so cool. The other amazing part of the tour was having all of the retired veterans there to answer questions and just talk about their own experiences in the military and some of them even on this ship. Awesome.

The tour docents and those in charge did a great job--given the COVID restrictions. We really got a good feel for the enormity of this aircraft carrier and the complex engineering and management required to make it all work. We felt lucky because there were only a dozen or so others touring when we did, so it was very leisurely and we were able to chat with the docents. We spent about 1 1/2 hours in total. Once the greater part of the ship is opened, I'd guess you might want to plan for 2 - 2 1/2 hours in total. WELL WORTH a visit!
