Pier is worth a walk for the views. And the beach has lots of entertainment from the surf crew who populate the area. Plenty of bars with a view and the time to go is for sunset.

Ocean Beach has a very large area for dogs to play, they can run around and swim without being on the leash. I have never seen my two dogs have such a wonderful time, after 90 mins they were exhausted and happy. I stayed in...More

Wife and I had a blast going to Ocean Beach. Surfers and interesting people abound of all ages!! Beach is great and we felt safe the whole time. Pay to Park is really the only way to get close that we saw.

This beach is stunning. It goes for miles and miles (or at least appears to) and is so inviting for a swim. The suburb around it also incredibly eccentric and quirky. Nice one.

Great place to body surf, lay on the beach or walk/bike the strand and eat, drink, and be merry. Very crowded during the day, it has great running trails in the morning. A great place for entire family to visit while in San Diego, CA.

I spent my first night in San Diego watching the surfers and sunset from the pier and it was perfect! Plenty of good restaurants to walk to, a brewery or two and Lighthouse Ice Cream shop for waffle ice cream sandwiches. Need I say more?

This is the original "hippie" beach and it still looks that way to some degree. Nothing really fancy here to eat, but plenty of casual eateries and bars, and a couple of nicer restaurants. The draw is the pier with the lovely views of the...More

This was what I was expecting when I thought of I pictured southern California beaches. Hippies, smoke shops, surfers, smokers and souvenir shops. Glad we checked this beach out.

Ocean beach has a surfer feel to it. The beach is right there and the folks that lives here seem carefree and lay back. Parking during the weekday isn't as bad as the weekend. Plenty of restaurants and gift shops.

I believe so. I have seen tents and canopies before, but you are right no overnight camping.
