We enjoyed this display of various artists of Russian Orthodox tradition of scenes of the life of Christ. Those by Rembrandt were also very enjoyable. In the other galleries were paintings in the French Romantic period and others by famous artists that were all very...More

The Timken Museum of Art is NOT a hidden gem at Balboa Park as it's located at the heart of the park across from the Visitor's Center. As the current special show ends on April 29, do go to see a stunning collection of 19th...More

The Timken museum showcases the private collections of some prominent San Diego families. It is a small gallery: a casual visitor could probably spend only a half hour here and yet still see the whole collection. A great indoor activity whilst you are visiting Balboa...More

Doesn't take long, but has some really neat pieces. Was pleasantly surprised that it was free and convenient in Balboa Park.

This is one of Balboa Park’s few free museums. It’s a small place and the emphasis is on European art. They also had an exhibit of religious icons going back to the 1400s. Since we were here in early December, they were displaying a collection...More

Free. Wonderful little museum that included works by some of the great masters. Did I say it was free . . . And it is in the middle of Balboa Park which is certainly worth a visit.

This gem in the middle of Balboa park was an unexpected find. The private collection of Italian, French and American art has some wonderful pieces, and the icon collection is quite special. Also an exhibit of Monet's work from the north coast of France was...More
