- Esther9 contributionsA Must SeeWe went to Old Town on two days as there is so much to see. The Mormon Battalion is a must see! They have an excellent multi-media presentation, and this tour is free. I was so impressed with the tour that I gave a donation. There is a Victorian village, many good restaurants, and much more.Visited February 2023Written 2 February 2023
- Cora PPhoenix, Arizona64 contributionsCheck out the free walking tourWe left out into the 1 hour free walking tour. It's only held on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 to noon. It was really informative and we were able to see parts of Old Town that we would not otherwise have been able to. I really like Old Town not only to buy tchotchke's, but to see the way people lived a couple hundred years ago. The walking tour really made it come to life.Visited February 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 12 February 2023
- Wendy TNew Romney, United Kingdom82 contributionsGreat visitGreat place to visit to see how San Diego was in the early 1800's, with some authentic relics from that era. Well stocked shops offering interesting goods with a Mexican feel. We were there a couple of hours only and could have spent longer to do the evening ghost walks etc.Visited February 2023Written 13 February 2023
- Northern_Traveler00California72,926 contributionsA nice place to visitIf you like tourists and tourists shops. The old buildings were cool, but 90% of them sell typical tourist shlock. A few good restaurants. Not much close by parking. Nearby lot holds 100-120 cars, and is free for up to 4 hours which is great, but all spaces are full by 11AM and a dozen cars are circling, circling, looking for a spot, which is kind of counterproductive. Maybe charge a small fee to park there? Shorter limits? "Free" fresh tortilla sample requires a tip before you get the delicious free tortilla.Visited February 2023Written 21 February 2023
- Becca DSan Diego, California35 contributionsInteresting History of San Diego - Free Parking!A large and FREE park (and free parking) to learn about San Diego's history. Be sure to stop first at the visitors center at the Robinson Rose House for a map and park info. We went on the walking tour that departs there at 11:00a. It was a 45 minute tour of history of old town and a good way to start our day and figure out what to explore.Visited March 2023Written 27 March 2023

It looks great but it's not clear which buildings are original or reconstructions. Disappointing that several buildings were closed including the main one and it seems the majority of the remaining ones are occupied by businesses rather than actual museum pieces.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 March 2023

We are from UK so have an immense amount of history compared to American but it was great to see this sight. Can’t imagine what it would’ve been like when it was the first settlement. Lovely place to visit in Old Town San Diego on a sunny day.
The Historic State Park is a fascinating place
Unfortunately we were there before all was open but it was still worth seeing
Don’t visit before 11am especially out of season

Sure, its a bit contrived and not authentic, but its nicely done and actually a pretty chilled way to spend a bit of time. Nice old buildings, restaurants and shops.

San Diego is a great city to explore. It has beaches, nice coastlines and lots of history! Exploring nearby towns was very enjoyable. La Jolla was a blast!!!

I was hoping to have an in-depth experience of the historic San Diego. Basically, the park is a commercial exploitation of a reconstructed setting, selling souvenirs and junk food.

Visit the Gaslight District, Balboa Park, Point Loma and Old Town. Lots of good beer and nightlife. Birch Scripps Aquarium is worth a drive. Go to Groupon and Local Flavor for major discounts on food & attractions. Parking is expensive, so try to find a hotel with parking included. Have been there many times, and always enjoy. Email me with a specific question and I will answer. Enjoy,
Pete

I went by train, and walked just 2 blocks towards the place, and it was much convenient than driving. But, I guess that there`s a parking place...good luck

We would be visiting with three kids (7, 6, and 4). I'd love some tips on things to see and not miss with them to make it an enjoyable and memorable day!
