Places like the Vance Moment are challenging to "review" particularly in light of today's events and the history of slavery in the United States. As an obelisk, the monument structure is noteworthy, interesting and modeled after Eqyptian obelisks and the most famous U. S. obelisk,...More

Nice historical monument, in a very happening square. The monument isn't something I would make a trip for in itself but if your visiting Asheville, check it out along with the square. Lots of colorful people and events.

Vance May Be the Southern Lesson from the Confederacy monuments. He was twice elected governor on an anti-succession platform. Jefferson Davis hated Vance, and the feeling was mutual. He was saddened by the loss of NC citizens in the civil war, and never prosecuted deserters...More

Cool to see, if youre in downtown you can't miss it, but I would not call it an attraction. There is a fountain behind it and it's one block from the courthouse park where they have "splashville"

A local white heritage obelisk in honor of a slave-owning Zebulon Vance. Much more interesting are the bronze animal statues at the foot of the monument.

The Vance Monument is fairly large and occupies a prime, you-can’t-miss-it site on Pack Square in the heart of Asheville. That makes it an important landmark. However, it’s an obelisk, and that makes it considerably less interesting as a tourist attraction. The obelisk is a...More

The Vance Monument is located in Pack Square and serves as a good landmark to meet up with people. Knowing about Zebulon Vance, it seems that others are more deserving of a monument but history has the good and bad aspects. So in a way...More

The Vance Monument is fine; it is located in a great area of Asheville and looks fine. Until reading the reviews I was unaware of the controversy arising from Vance having owned slaves. Perhaps the best response would be for diverse groups to use the...More

They Vance monument basically is downtown Asheville amongst restaurants ,clubs ,shops ,and other items of interest. This monument does have some background that may be disturbing to some individuals but it is part of history.
