Spent a little time wandering throught the studios. It was quiet when we visited the week between Christmas and New Years, so a number of the studios were closed. Those we did visit were warm and inviting, even when they knew you were just browsing. We were able to interact with several of the artists and really enjoyed our time.

Though not (yet) on a par with nationally renowned art districts like Santa Fe’s Canyon Road, Asheville’s River Arts District has achieved a critical mass and emerged as an important tourist destination. Recalling how seedy this area looked when I first saw it many years ago, I was struck by the remarkable transformation we saw during our recent visit. Well... More

Most buildings and places are closed on Sunday, so double check before you. This is an area full of older buildings or warehouses broken up into artists studios. There are all mediums. You can just wander around and explore per building. Some have working artist in them. You can watch them at work or ask questions. Others are more a... More

We always stop here when we visit Asheville or the Biltmore. Lots of great art galleries and shops and something for everyone and all tastes in art. You will not regret it.

Browsing through these artist studios is always a great activity. These artists are all very talented and their work is beautiful. Many artists will do custom work for commission, and some hold events where you are able to watch the artists work and observe their process.

Walked the river arts district with family on the weekend. Some interesting studios to visit but not anything to knock the socks off. Glad we went, don't need to go back.

The highlight is the gallery at the Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts. Here you can peek at artists working and see their most recent work. Much of the work is by younger, edgier artists. There is some great stuff here reasonably priced. There are other good studios also, and it's fun just to walk around.

Weekend in Asheville, Sat was booked and Sat night spent in town. Sunday we wanted to do the Arts District but found almost everything closed. Most buildings look deserted and not very well marked.

So many artists, so many things to see, make this a special place in Asheville. You can find thousands of things here, usually no two alike, in the shops all along the path. Stop in and see demonstrations and watch the artist create unique items and paintings!
