This is a rebuilt fort by the National Park Service. They did an excellent job. It's one of the best forts I have been to. Well worth your time to visit here. Make sure and use the shuttle phone (yellow) under the cover and they...More

I went to the candlelight tour. They said it showcased life at the fort during 1843. I found the reinactors were great and the fort at night was something I will never forget. The tour is every year, but fills up fast. I registered at...More

Worth the time to visit this place! I became a Santa Fe Trail evangelist here. There's SO MUCH to see and learn! The gift shop has a great book selection, and the staff throughout the site were very helpful at every turn. I have visited...More

We had previously visited Fort Larned NHS and these two National Park Service facilities together do an excellent job of showing what life must have been like during the days when the Santa Fe Trail was a major commercial route. The fort is reconstructed but...More

We loved this place, it is so well done and understated, we truly felt like we back in time, this is not gimmicky or sensationalized at all. Their sensitivity to recreating the past is exceptional, an absolute treasure.

This is a reproduction of the old fort. Employees dress in period clothing. Spent less than an hour walking to every room with the interpretive guidebook.

My guess is not too many people know about this place which is ironic given its significance in the history of The Great American West and the Santa Fe Trail from 1833 to 1849 when, it is said, the owner of the place blew it...More

View what it was like in the past at this 1846 fort. There are two stories, each with various furnished rooms. The fort was one of the most significant centers of the fur trading along the Sante Fe Trail. We recommend coming on weekends when...More

It is about 10 miles from La Junta to Bent's Old Fort. The roads are paved and well maintained.
