If you want inexpensive yet excellent entertainment while visiting San Francisco, consider checking out BATS Improv at Fort Mason. The show is delightful and entertaining and completely unexpected. As you enter the casual, intimate setting you notice the lack of rules and pretense as you might expect at a city venue. The improvisers might even mingle with the audience before... More

Activity I identified before visiting San Francisco that I could do with my teen daughter at night. Funny and very creative! A great way to spend an evening.

I love improv. I love the exchange between the audience and actors. I love the crazy stories resulting from the exchange. BATS Improv "Service Please: An Improvised Hotel Farc" lacked both ingredients. First, the exchanges between the BATS actors and audience were short four questions whose answers were not an important part of the play that the actors developed. It... More

In my last of the Foundation classes, it's been a great experience and challenging. Gets me out of my comfort zone.

In my opinion, BATS is the best improvised theater company in the Bay Area. The cast members are amazing storytellers -- I laughed and cried as an audience member on the same night.

Attended a performance where the audience was asked to text suggestions which appeared on the screen on the stage. The topic was the high price of housing in San Francisco. The performance started out well but morphed into an unfunny bit which even ended with one of the characters committing suicide. Improv should be funny, this was not.

After a dinner at Off the Grid Ft. Mason, we attended the third week of improv theatresport competition between The Judges and The Clowns. The performers were amazing and came up with such quick adaptations to their performances based on audience suggested topics. The evening went quickly and we were especially impressed with the expressiveness and creativity of Ben Johnson.... More

Not your usual comedy or improv but great fun anyway. When we went it was a competition among two teams who did different types of scenes with suggestions from the audience.

A friend and I checked out BATS on the weekend. There is a small bar before you walk in with a few wine and beer options plus soft drinks. Had a fun time, the improv was good but we like Secret Improv Society on Sutter better. Some fun bits and audience interaction, check it out! The theater is in the... More

Our family went to their improv show on New Years eve while visiting San francisco. It was a fun family activity but not funny at all. They took a few suggestions from the audience - for example, the weather - and then put on a fairly scripted farce that was cute but not funny. The performers were spirited and the... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighbourhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighbourhood into a party-going hotspot.
