Long line, panhandlers, and crowds make this somewhat less than a fun experience. The up side of this though is people-watching...great place to meet people of all nationalities if you take the time and trouble. This is also a good place for photos, both of...More

Try avoid doing this on a weekend or a holiday as the lines are long. First you lineup for tickets and then you get in another long line to get on the trolley. Be patient, it's worth it!

This cable car turn-around has always been lively and crowded. The Powell Street Cable Car line is the most popular as most car go to Fisherman's Wharf.

I watched the cable car action for awhile while the Mrs. did some shopping in nearby stores. Fascinated by the history of the cable cars and glad to see they have been maintained/still utilized as intended.

Its a must visit and activity when in SF. Get there early before 7am and you will enjoy a great time chatting with the friendly drivers and attendants. Kids below 7 years old cant stand by the pole.

Who can leave San Francisco without riding on a cable car? It's best that visitors wait in line because most won't get off until the end of the other turnaround. Standing in this line means "I'm a tourist". You will get lots of musicians or...More

This turnaround is interesting to watch in the process of turning the cars 180 degrees for a return trip to Fisherman's Wharf or Ghirardelli Square. It is also a good place to board the cable car on a busy day as other 'stops' along the...More

A great experience to see how the operators manually turn the cars around at the end of the line. There is entertainment to keep you busy while you wait. Riding the cable cars is a must do in SF - so fun.

At the end of the tram rides you have a turntable which is used, watch the guys turn the tram around it looks quite easy. We noticed the long queues at the end so be prepared to wait.

Hmmm - we had purchased the San Fran "City Pass" that included unlimited riding on cable cars & the Muni Buses. It's a lot cheaper if you're going to be in town for 3-7 days! To just ride it one time, it's $7 a person per... More
