Me and a Friend came to San Francisco to discover and learn more about the LGBT culture, this tour certainly didn't disappoint. Kathy who runs the tours was very informative and knowledgable about the area of castro and it's sexually diverse cultures. I found Kathy to be very funny and approachable which made the tour have a personal touch. I... More

This is not a 'gay tour', though members of the LGBT community will find this incredibly empowering. Anyone who has an interest in the struggle for equality and human rights in the USA must take this tour! The guide Kathy provides a professional, sensitive and positive tour of the main points of interest from yesterday's and today's Castro neighbourhood. The... More

Kathy was a great tour guide. Very laid back and gave information that captured the essence or flavor of the area. Our daughter wanted to visit this area on our trip to SF. My husband and I were indifferent to the idea, but I didn't want to just wander the neighborhood. Kathy's tour fit the bill and took us to... More

Just took the tour today and boy were we amazed! Kathy is so professional, knowledgeable, warm, and not afraid to tell the group exactly how the community lives. It was refreshing and informative and Kathy was a walking encyclopedia of facts about the LGBT community and Castro. We took our kids (13 year girl and 17 year old son) and... More

Kathy is wonderful - friendly, knowledgeable and able to deliver some of the sexier bits of information with a knowing smile! The area is of course fantastic and the facts / insight this tour offers is invaluable. We did the tour then essentially walked it again once it was over, looking at all the fascinating sites again. It is a... More

Kathy is amazing and full of knowledge on the history of the Castro area, human rights and the power of community. We learned so much in the short 2 hour walking tour in this vibrant area. If you want to learn more about civil and equal rights, the Castro area, San Francisco, LGBTQAQP (and many others as not to exclude)... More

Kathy accommodated me even though I was the only person that had booked for the time, so I was lucky enough to get a solo tour. She is a wealth of hilarious facts and knowledge about the area and its history, and I came out feeling a sense of pride like I never had before. If you are in the... More

This tour painted an authentic portrait of the history and culture of the Castro community. We learned the origins of how the community formed and about the influential people who sacrificed everything to protect the dignity of all. Shocking, saddening, funny and inspirational all at the same time.

Neighbourhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighbourhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighbourhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theatres and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
