This small Japan town right in the centre of San Francisco has a great choice for Japanese food including ramen, yakiniku, ice cream, and drink. It also has many shopping selling souvenirs, handcraft, clothes and many more imported from Japan. Don't miss the nitrogen snack called "Dragon Breath" for a taste and fun.

Historic neighborhood somewhat transformed by 70s urban renewal. Some beautiful Victorians survive. Some big apartment buildings. A great movie theater. But the best part is the collection of excellent restaurants.

This area remains very authentically Japanese. The food is great and the shops interesting. Their are chain stores from Japan as well as independent shops. It's worth a couple of hours of hunting around in this area.

Japantown transports you out for San Fransisco, which can be hard with the mess and homeless everywhere, into a section of the town that is spotless. We visited while the Rose Petal possession was on, and there where demonstrations of Kendo, Karate and lots to see and do. The shopping centre is fantastic, some of the foods and crafts where... We got lucky and the cherry blossoms festival was that week and there are many activities and things to do the mall has all the shops and food places to try out. Very nice clean mall center and very cool to walk around and get a snack lunch even dinner with all the places to eat. Believe me I ate... More

Visited during Cherry Blossom Festival so it was very crowded. Had fun visiting the shops in the indoor center (pottery, kimonos, stationary, desserts, Anime, etc etc). There are many choices for meals including ramen shops, izakaya places and teppan choices. We ended up at Marufuku (next to the bookstore) and had great hakata-style ramen for lunch. There was the obligatory... More

I love Japantown. It's truly like being in Japan without all the fuss of expensive plane tickets. The shops are very cool and welcoming. Check out all the restaurants and pick one where frequented by the local Japanese residents and you'll feel like you've travelled. Or try little things from multiple places - there's so many choices! You'll be able... More

This was our second visit to Japantown while visiting San Francisco. The best Japanese restaurants in San Francisco are located here and there are some very interesting Japanese electronics and goods stores. We had heard rumors that cars are commonly broken into by workers in the area, but we did not see nor have any problems with this. In fact... More

The atmosphere and level of friendliness is incredible here. Everyone wants to help you and the streets/shops are kept extremely clean compared to other parts of the city. Walking the streets of JapanTown is a night and day experience compared to ChinaTown.

So many great things here, fresh handmade mochi, great sushi and ramen. Adorable Japanese cartoon and videogame character merchandise, and video stores with tons of anime, if it's Japanese, you can find it here!!
