- Paul Smith PalliserPeru302 contributionsIconic park.Came to this park to take pictures of The Painted Ladies and to take a breather from our sightseeing vacation. We sat in the grass for a while and took in the sights and the people. We were lucky to find a parking spot next to the park but we never lost sight of our car (lots of smash-and-go burglars) even though we stored everything in the trunk.Visited July 2022Written 24 February 2023
- Gerbra_10Uxbridge, United Kingdom2,084 contributionsNice park with great viewThis park has great views of a lot of the city, and the main reason for visiting is the painted houses, as seen on my films. The park has a little coffee van, lots of benches and a dog park. I’m sure in the summer a picnic and blanket would be great. You could pop through as we did or spend hours here. It’s peaceful and a rest bite in the city. Please just note if walking here from the Union Square area, you will pass many homeless people, many on drugs. We didn’t encounter issues but it wasn’t the best experience.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 February 2023

Every thing was easily accessible, from airport to hotel in union square on the train. The tram was a great way to get to the harbour and the boat rides were great. Alcatraz and the Golden gate bride a must.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 October 2023

Beautiful view of the city overlooking the bay. The Full House houses across the street. We were on a Hop On/Off bus and was very easy to get to from the stop.

Wonderful views from up here AND if you want to see the "Painted Ladies" you can kill two birds with one stone. The park is really lovely to walk, and on this Saturday there were tons of dogs (I am dog obsessed) so I was in heaven watching them all running around. We had trekked up here to check out the Painted Ladies, but the treat was the views of the skyline (great photos!) and the lovely park itself. Proximity walk to Hayes St. was great for us as well to walk down and have a late breakfast.

A beautiful spot in SF, Alamo Square is a great option for a relaxed afternoon. The views of the city, the houses in the neighbourhood & the garden combine to make it a delightful experience.

When we went the trees were a bit overgrown therefore covering the iconic homes. It wasn't too crowded but it wasn't picnic friendly open space either.
Overall worth a 5 minute stopover.

Don’t park your car near Alamo park. The windows will likely be smashed in. Take an uber or walk to the park but be cautious. It’s nice to take a few pictures but that’s it.

Hello Can anyone tell me when the construction at the park is likely to be finished.
We head there mid September and would like to see this place without all the work happening.
Thank you

Is there a per vehicle weight limitation to drive around Alamo Square? e.g., is a tour van allowed?
Allison M

They don't allow tour busses so I would assume they won't allow a large van. There are signs posted along the streets.
where do you park if visiting alamo square? I only want to take a picture in front of the painted ladies as I am a huge Full House fan.

Ahhh, parking in San Francisco. Basically, you let all people out of your vehicle who have limited mobility, and then you make some concentric circles until you find a coveted parking place. Key here is to remember where you parked. At the end of the visit to the Alamo Square, you do the reverse. Easy for your peeps, some work required on your part.
