This small museum mainly features Early American artifacts, from furniture to pewter, though the exterior of this odd, eight-sided building is itself worth a look.

Nice peculiar architecture and colors from the outside. It has been marked as a San Francisco landmark. But it was closed and opening hours and days are not many. So this visit should be planned.

There is nothing quite so invigorating as a challenge, and a house museum that is open very limited hours is just that to those who visit historic houses. The small octagonal building has been significantly altered inside to suit the purposes of the Colonial Dames....More

Open rarely, but go if you can. Tip: if the scheduled opening coincides with (or is close to) a holiday, the house may well not open in my experience, so call ahead to make sure. Well worth the visit to see this uniquely shaped house,...More

My grandfather's construction company was hired in the early 1950's to renovate the building which was empty at the time. During construction, his crew found a time capsule in the wall. It contained a letter about the times, the effect of the Gold Rush, etc....More

Colonial Dames bought the house, restored it with some changes, and give the tours. Their interest and excitement in our country and history is contagious and you find yourself wanting to know more and visiting all their other properties.

Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful
backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to
the Marina. Originally the location for the
Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose
remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much
of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a
world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a
jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city.
