The San Francisco Symphony is a world class ensemble. This past weekend I heard them perform the soundtrack to On The Waterfront with a screening of the film. It was a riveting and powerful experience. The hall has fantastic, clear sound, which is impressive given the soundtrack of the old movie. Next time I want to hear them perform without... More

Pink Martini played with the San Francisco Symphony and together they were powerful and put on a rewarding show. The venue is nice and parking is convenient.

Think of the world's great concert halls. The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The Opera Bastille in Paris. Lincoln Center in New York City. San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall doesn't yet have the history of those storied venues, but it's history is growing. Young artists like Yuja Wang, attracted by the programming of Michael Tilson Thomas, perform here as often as... More

We are Hitchcock fans so this was a must see! Symphony played the background music to Alfred Hitchcock's movie Vertigo. To top it off, Kim Novak who starred with Jimmy Stewart chatted with the audience prior to the screening. Kim Novak is an artist and work was displayed in the lobby. The SF Symphony is a San Francisco treasure!!!

I don't need to say more. You either got it, or you won't. The full program was: Haydn Symphony No. 69, Laudon; Sibelius Symphony No. 3; Beethoven Symphony No. 5. And there was a free, open-seating talk that starts one hour before the performance. The hall is beautiful both visually and acoustically. The pre-concert talk was illuminating. The concert was... Would definitely recommend going to SF Symphony if you have time. The programs are always full with interesting shows and themes and the composers are amazing. The hall itself is gorgeous as well and it is possible to find decently priced seats.

You can't go wrong with an evening at the symphony. The hall is lovely and well tuned. Arrive about 30 minutes before curtain. (Actually there is no curtain). You can dress casually but I like to dress up. If you are from the area, buy season tickets and you will have an activity to look forward to. There are lots... More

I have gone several times as a school chaperone. The performances for schools were wonderful and informative. I can't wait to go on my own without 30-60 students to manage. The venue itself is gorgeous. The performances I have been to on many occasions have been outstanding and consistently well done.

I'm a season subscriber and have been for a number of years. I am always impressed with the consistent, polished presentation of the symphony. Also, the soloists and other performers are best in class. Davies Symphony Hall is a comfortable venue, good acoustics and easy access. The area around the Symphony Hall has many good restaurants and bars for pre... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
