This is a neighborhood shopping area, a place to buy things and eat and drink. Sadly with retail lagging there are a lot of vacant storefronts, which may be a permanent feature. Still much more interesting than a shopping mall.

At first glance this place looks charming: nicely done buildings, lots of shops, trolleys, slanted streets, cable cars, and lots of tourists. Then you look past that and you see the greed and the misfortune. You see billionaires walking around in their designer clothes while the homeless pee and poop on the floor. So many homeless people you can’t miss them anymore. So many young people openly doing drugs and begging for money. You don’t know who to help. We must have purchased food for 10 people and donated all our purse money in one day. Then you wait until the sun sets and you go to Starbucks and you realize that there are prostitutes in see through white dresses with their underwear showing sitting next to your six year old. She, this beautiful young women, is just grabbing coffee before her shift starts. The conversions I had with my girls are still on going. Sigh 😢

Used to be a great street. Now dirty street with homeless and many empty store fronts. This December 2019 they have not even decorated for the holidays. Fillmore and other streets have lights and decor. Very sad

When tourists hear "Union," they think of the Square. With locals, we think of the Street. Union Street in Cow Hollow is one of the three favorite places this side of town where locals hang out. The other two are Fillmore in Pacific Heights and Chestnut in the Marina. Fillmore intersects both Union and Chestnut. I go to Union every day because that's where my health club is located. Aside from gyms, sports bars, coffee shops, bakeries, boutiques, stores and restaurants line the street. On certain week-ends, the association holds a street fair with live bands, food and beer stands, and stalls selling local products and advertising establishments. On other week-ends, the street is transformed into a mini carnival for children with kiddie rides, treats and even live ponies for riding. There is something for everyone in Union Street and you are guaranteed to have a fun time. Next time someone asks you about Union, it is likely you will think of the Street after you've been there.

One of San Francisco's more upscale neighborhoods surrounds this shopping street that is lined with places to eat and drink. Unique.
