About
At the northwestern corner of San Francisco, there is a series of stunning views at every turn in this wild and windy trail. Hillsides of cypress and wildflowers, views of shipwrecks and access to the ruins of Sutro baths, a San Francisco specials memory.

- luv4phoodMarietta, Georgia810 contributionsViews of the Golden Gate BridgeThis is a must see in San Francisco. The walk begins at the north end of Ocean Beach near the Sutro Baths. As you proceed along the trail, there are overlooks of rock formations, the ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge, each more spectacular than the last. It is a lovely way to spend the day just strolling along the paths and enjoying the scenic views.Visited July 2022Written 25 December 2022

- ZenDark30Portland, Oregon2,438 contributionsNo Guide NeededA close second to Fisherman’s wharf in terms of visitors, this 2 mile trail from Eagles Point to the USS San Francisco is on the top ten of San Francisco must dos. Along the way there are lots of scenic overlooks to taste the sea air and catch your breath. Interpretive signs tell stories of the wildlife, geology, natural and human history. Did I mention the Golden Gate Bridge views? If, you can, I dare you to keep pace with the multiple barges, freighters, and cruise ships. I recommend for families and anyone with a modicum level of fitness. There is one staircase otherwise terrain is fairly level.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 7 September 2023

This was a lovely area to stop and take it all in. Very quiet when we were there and a little cool off the water. Hope to visit again soon.

This was my absolute favorite part of San Francisco when we were in town for vacation. It has great trails and great lookout points. I would highly recommend it if you're traveling to SF and looking for things to do!

Well I would have loved to given 5* but the parking charges are just an absolute rip off to the max!!!!!!!!!! We wanted to visit here on the way back for about 45 mins, only to find the minimum parking charge is a staggering and outrageous £6!
I know you pay more by the sea but this is an absolute disgrace!!!!!!!!
The actual lands end is good and views phenominal, just the parking spoilt it for us!

Let me count the ways...
I stay out at the Seal Rock Inn on my visits, because I enjoy the quiet and the beauty of the area.
This visit, spring was in full flower and the blossoms of many native plants brought vi id splashes of color to the already stunning landscape.
Foghorns sang me to sleep, along with the occasional hoot of an owl. And I met lots of dogs (and their owners!) on my treks through the landscape.
I love this special, peaceful place. May it always remain so.

Is this trail mostly flat? How difficult is it?
Cathy H
Gold Coast, Australia171 contributions
The trail is packed crushed gravel and very easy to walk on.
It is flat and wide, easy to use prams and bikes on.
If you want to descend to the coast line there are wide stairs at all the vista spots, you would need to carry bikes and prams down. Approx 150+ stairs but the views are amazing and worth the extra effort. The tracks down at the bottom are more eroded but easy to manage if you have a helper. This is an excellent day out, so much to see. Take a jacket and start, if it’s windy or overcast or foggy it will be really cold. It was a glorious sunny day for us, we were so lucky. Hope you have a great day also. I rate this hiking trail 10/10

Can you hike Lands End after sunrise but before 9am if you don’t need to park a car?
How long is the trail?
Is it a circle or can you start and finish in different places ?
How long should you allow to hike and see Land End?
JoeKupe
Victor, NY657 contributions
Yes, you can start your hike before 9am at Sunrise. We started by the muni golf course and it is a nice hike, not to challenging, but it is an out and back so leave time to get back. Total with pictures you should be able to do in roughly two hours.

Is it possible to get here using public transport? We’re not hiring a car whilst here.
If getting a taxi, any idea how far and how much? Thanks

The bus that runs along Geary St. is a good way to go. It is an East/West direction. Almost all of the North/South running buses cross Geary. No problem. Take the Geary bus West and get off at the end of the line. The Lands End walk is very beautiful. Fantastic view of Seal Rock, forest, the entrance to San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, and green, green Marin County. Be very careful around the cliffs. Can be very dangerous. We loose a few tourists each year. But if you use caution it is a great place to be. I am going there myself on the 5th. Enjoy.

I’m trying to figure out how far of a walk it is from Lands End to Golden Gate Park. Looks like maybe 4 miles. Has anyone walked it and know how far it is? We love to walk and 4-6 miles is
Doable for us.

Good Evening Karen, I am thinking that the walk from the main parking lot for Land's End to the California Academy of Science in Golden Gate State Park is just about 4 miles and will probably take about two hours at a leisurely stroll. It could take a bit longer depending on how much sightseeing you do along the way. It is downhill to the beach and a minor steady climb going back to the east. You will climb about 250 feet over three miles which really is nothing. You have oceans, Windmills, Bison, Tea Gardens and more along the way to contend with your attention. I guess you could walk back to Land's End, or catch a cab for a nominal fee. Check maps for buses if you have a day pass. The walking route will be well worth your time and the sights you will see are very nice. I hope you do it and enjoy the experience. Cheers.
What time should we get to Land's End to avoid too many initial crowds and ensure a good parking spot?

I plan to cover lands end & baker beach (walking). Can someone suggest a safe & doable trail. What points should i cover here?
Thanks

Lake Mary, FL106 contributions
The California Coastal Trail goes from the Cliff House and Sutro Baths at Land's End all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge. It does pass by Baker Beach, so you take take it to go there, or you can go all the way to the bridge, which is around 9 miles away. Baker Beach is probably around half that distance, so you will have to walk 4 to 5 miles to go from Land's End to Baker Beach.
