This gem shouldn't be missed. Rick's enthusiasm, knowledge, and sense of humor are not to be surpassed. Within 5 minutes we learned a huge amount about that we didn't know and we live in the area! We will definitely be taking more of these with Rick!

This is a terrific experience, well worth the most $40 cost per person. Extremely informative about San Francisco architecture, urban planning, and architectural history. Rick Evans has a scholar's knowledge of the subject, had an entertaining delivery style, and answers questions thoroughly and patiently but somehow manages not to waste any time. You see and learn an amazing amount in... More

Such a great tour! Huge amounts of information - all presented in context and in a way that really helped give meaning to not only the Finance District but San Francisco city. Rick was a great tour guide - friendly, enthusiastic and loved engaging with each of us on this small group tour. A must for international, interstate or even... More

We booked this tour on Thanksgiving weekend with only two days notice. But Rick got back to us quickly to confirm availability and provide directions to the meeting place. We met as planned and started 2+ hours of education and viewing of the artistry of architecture in SF. Rick changed our perspective on architecture by having us look up -... More

Rich Evans knows so much about San Francisco and even though I live here (well, just outside in El Cerrito), I never fail to get more information about San Francisco whenever I take one of his tours. Plus he is a great story teller and keeps you enthralled the entire walk. Go. You'll be happy you did.

I have done this tour twice with Rick Evans and I will do it again when I return to SF. It is an insiders look at some of the most beautiful aspects of the architecture of The Financial District. A must see/do tour!

This tour was a gift for my wife's birthday. We are fans of walking architectural tours, having done a couple in Chicago a few years back. Rick is a super tour-guide, with excellent knowledge of both the architectural styles we saw, the architectural history, and the history of that part of San Francisco in general. It's impressive that we saw... More

Great tour by a great guide, lots of information about the city history and how it affected the how the city looks right now. The whole 2-2.5 hour tour takes place at a surprisingly small area but you'll see a lot. And even more importantly you'll hear a lot of background information from Rick explaining what is unique about those... More

Fantastic tour that provided a real insight and appreciation of both old and new architecture in San Francisco. While the tour only covers a small area, I was amazed at the wealth of history and information that was contained in about four city blocks. Also loved hearing about POPOS - what a brilliant idea. Ricks commentary was interesting, and contained... More

Having occasion to spend a day in the city with my daughter, who attends SFSU, I was looking for something new and interesting for us to do. Since we're both interested in the fascinating architecture in SF, I looked up architecture tours and found Rick Evans'. Fortunately, we were able to join the tour on the same day (just call... Staying in Financial District

Neighbourhood Profile
Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s version of Wall Street. The rush of business people make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of historic and contemporary architecture, including the iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours, bars and restaurants quickly fill up with happy hour revelers. Stocks aren’t the only kind of market being followed, the Ferry Building Marketplace on the Embarcadero is a gourmet food emporium and farmers market that will satisfy anyone working up an appetite.
