I know the wharf it is a tourist thing, but there is a lot history behind all that, y have expended the area a lot with many shops and restaurants, also they added pier 39 less than mile from each other, my favorite restaurant is Alioto's Restaurant: Alioto's Italian Seafood mid range prices, also Ghiradelli Square - San Francisco's Best... We walked to the Wharf, and didn't spend a ton of time here. Lots of people, picked up some saltwater taffy and munched on that. Kind of dirty. Good for people watching, and I'm sure there were some good places to eat -- but we weren't there for that. Just strolled through.

Fisherman's Wharf is almost as iconic to San Francisco as is Alcatraz Island. It's not something to miss if you have never been to San Francisco. Mostly there are a lot of restaurants serving up all kinds of sea food. Crab, shrimp cocktails, sour dough bowls filled with clam chowder. Pretty much anything that comes from the sea can be... Another Middle America mindless stroll. Hey this is not quite half the voting population so maybe I am missing something......NOT. There are many more interesting and sophisticated places to stroll about in San Francisco including the museums, the Castro district, the Golden Bridge and even the edgy Tenderloin District. There is more to SF than tourist designed destinations.

Crowds, more crowds, crowds. Cheap souvenirs available for purchase, t-shirts, kitsch (and not very interesting kitsch at that). If you're a shopper, a few interesting shops, otherwise spend your time at Golden Gate Park.

Shopping center and harbor seal hang out. nice boardwalk around the 'mall' is fun for watching the boats in the bay. The seals are entertaining. Food is generally expensive and the shops are touristy, but its fun to walk around at a minimum. PROs: good boat & seal watching, variety of shoppes, exterior walkway too. CONs: pricey, touristy, hate to... More

Fisherman's Wharf is so great for shopping! There are so many stores and shops to look through. From gift shops to grocery shops. Places to eat and enjoy desserts. Very reasonable pricing too. You can visit the seals too! Quite the experience!

On our first trip to San Francisco, we visited the Fisherman's Wharf. There are plenty of restaurants and lots of shops along the way. It was a great place for shopping and dining. I would highly recommend visiting the Wharf when visiting San Francisco.
