Very touristy, but you have to visit one of the piers if you're in from out of town. Our preference was Pier 39.

If your in SF you cannot miss this one. Tons of good food and fun. Day trips to several sites and good prices too. Serious, if you are in SF you have to hit this one!

Fun place to walk around and relax too. Great places to eat around too. Go to the bakery and have some sour dough.

The Musee Mecanique was great fun. Tours of submarine and merchant marine were informative. We did not eat there as fish did not sound good to us. However wandering the cooked fish stalls was interesting. Appears both bus and boat tours depart from here. Parking is expensive in area.

If you've never been, you have to go. This is a great spot for tourists, but for locals, this is where the good seafood is. I live an hour away, but if I want a clam chowder bread bowl, I'm going to make the trip here. Parking is rough, especially on weekends. If you can, use public transportation. The atmosphere... There are so many venues that sell clam chowder here at Fisherman's Wharf. How do you choose? All places have standard prices at $6.25 for a cup of chowder. Some places have other kinds of food like lobster rolls, fried calamari. But my main complaint is that you have to eat standing up unless you go inside of a restaurant.... More

If you enjoy fresh seafood-try one of the Wharf's outdoor vendors for fresh chowder, shrimp cocktail (really really good) and not so pricey. There is plenty of live entertainment day and night, and so close to Pier 39 that you are never going to run out of things to do and see

Complete tourist trap. Overrated in the sense that everything here is crowded and unauthentic. Lots of knick knack, T-shirt, and souvenir shops. If you want to catch a bus or segway tour this is the location, but I would not recommend spending much time here otherwise. There are much better places to spend time in SF and far better restaurants... More
