This is a nice area full of shops and restaurants, ideal for walking. I recommend going in the hours of sunset. It has a classic view overlooking the bay which is not to be missed.

To be honest, this is the part of San Francisco real San Franciscans make fun of. Chain stores and eateries and people who seem more at home in LA. Don't like.

There are many blocks of very pretty and very expensive large homes. Across the bay-side boulevard is a grassy park with good views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The boulevard along the bay is a very pleasant approach to the bridge, in comparison to parallel commercial Lombard Street.

The Marina District of San Francisco is a great place to not only do some people watching but get some great photography and also check out the neighborhood (the architecture and the restaurants are really interesting). I also suggest going to check out the many boats which are docked in the area and some other unique surprises (like the wave... More

If you're traveling to the Golden Gate bridge you're going to pass the Marina district. I like looking at the boats and the scenery here is nice peaceful but beware of the San Francisco wind. In any case, you will pass this place on you're way to "The Bridge" Golden Gate. Enjoy!

It's vibrant with a charming neighborhood feel, especially Chestnut St! Two movie theaters, gym, grocery store, six spots for coffee, restaurants and bars! Also walk easily to Giradelli Square. Walk easily to the water and green space.

We stopped into this small neighborhood for lunch after visiting the Presidio area (right next to it). We stumbled upon Chestnut Street (right north of Lombard Street) that had lots of great restaurants. Also looked like there were some stores and a movie theatre. Gorgeous architecture

Staying in Marina District

Neighbourhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighbourhood into a party-going hotspot.
