Hard to walk in this area of San Francisco without hearing the native Russian speakers conversing. Not sure why this is the place so many chose to live, but a nice neighborhood to stroll and nice to see the immigrant experience as part of this city's fabric.

We did a 90-minute self-guided walking tour of the neighborhood and were glad we did - yes, you will walk up and down hills and steps but you'll be rewarded with great views of Coit Tower, the bay, and beautifully restored historic homes. Look for the 6-foot rabbit statue outside one of the nicest homes!

This is where a lot of the money lives. They light their cigars with stock options and laugh at our folly. Some good stores up there.

Over 40 hills in SF and this is the one of the few not to miss. It's central to several highlights (short walks and drives) and has great views. I recommend parking to get the full experience, BUT, be careful if you park on the hill. Your downhill door will swing open with a lot of force so best to... More

Staying in Russian Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Russian Hill
Russian Hill has evolved into a chic residential neighborhood with outstanding views from every corner. Combined with several great cafes, restaurants, antique shops and boutiques, it’s easy to see why any visitor would gladly leave their heart in San Francisco. Cars line up day after day to drive down Lombard Street, the “crookedest” street in the world, and make the slow creep downhill past charming period homes. Polk Street is the main drag in this neighborhood, where you will find trendy bars, cafes and shops populated with locals, but for one of the most charming rides in the city, grab a cable car heading up and down Hyde Street.
