Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a cool neighborhood and a great place to walk around. The crown is Coit Tower which is worth a visit for the murals inside. And Grant Street is the shopping area for bars and restaurants. Lots of flavor on the streets.

This hike was delightful! I learned so much I didn't know and I've been going to the Bay Area for decades. Dennis, our guide was raised in the area and new all sort of things. I won't ruin the surprise(s) for you, but take this tour! But be sure you can handle steps, the hills are steep.

Telegraph Hill is the hill on which Coit Tower is located. You can get a fantastic view of the Bay, that famous Lombard St block, and bridges without paying to go up the elevator of Coit Tower. If you want a real workout and test of endurance, walk up Kearny St from the South side of the hill; that's a sense of accomplishment. If you want to save your legs, just take the #39 bus.

Take a walk from Coit Tower down the eastern steps ("garden district") of Telegraph Hill. I think the steps are technically Greenwich Street. You will be transported to old England - old wooden steps, tiny gates leading to charming cottages- trees and flowers everywhere. This is the home of the famous "Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill". This 10 minute walk is one of my favorite spots in the city, one that most tourists do not know about.

Telegraph Hill includes Coit Tower, Filbert steps and Pioneer Park. Of these, we spent most time at Coit Tower, viewing the city from the highest vantage point. It offers a truly magnificent view!! We took number 39 Muni bus from the Embarcadero to Coit Tower to save walking up the extremely steep hill to the base of the tower and recommend this!!! There is an elevator up Coit Tower and a small fee.

There are some nice views on this hill. It is very easy with bus 39 from pier 39 to go up, and walk down seeing all others struggle to go up.

The best way to travel to Telegraph Hill is to hike up the trial which also includes stairs. This will not only provide you with a great hike and good views but will eliminate the need to find a parking place at the top. This is a popular destination so parking is difficult. Once at the top of the hill, you will have commanding views of the city in all directions. Inside the tower, you see the murals commissioned under the Public Works os Art Project, a new deal program. These painting depict many areas of life. For a fee, you can ride to the top of the tower.

This is an incredible place to visit at sunset (and I would imagine at sunrise as well), and a great vantage point for photos in all directions. We got some great shots down several long, steep streets which were bathed in golden evening light, several of which were postcard quality! You can also clearly see the San Francisco Bay Bridge, and some of the downtown business area as well. Coit Tower is in this area, and several streets with dead ends have beautiful homes decked in flowers to stroll past as you check out the views. One downside is that parking is a real pain. There is little room to even drive up some of the streets, much less park on them, and what parking is available seems to belong to the residents. We ended up just driving slowly around and around, hopping out of the car to take pictures as we went along. Check it out.
