Experience the Exploratorium, a hands-on museum of science, art, and human...

Experience the Exploratorium, a hands-on museum of science, art, and human perception that's dedicated to the excitement of experimentation, the pleasure of discovery, and the power of play. Indulge your curiosity in over 600 exhibits-indoors and out-and explore eye-opening ways to understand the world around you. Don't miss the iconic Tactile Dome, where you can take an interactive excursion in total darkness using your sense of touch as your only guide (be sure to make a reservation in advance). There's also a unique museum store plus two delicious places to eat: the SeaGlass restaurant, which has a stunning Bay view, and the Seismic Joint cafe. Located at Pier 15 along San Francisco's Embarcadero between Pier 39 and the Ferry Building, the Exploratorium is easy to get to by public transportation (the F-Market & Wharves Historic Streetcar stops out front and it's a ten-minute walk from BART or MUNI) plus there's parking nearby. Tickets are available online (recommended) or at the door.

Great place

This place was fantastic on a rainy day. There is so much to do and see. There are great things to learn.

Great if you have inquisitive, active kids (or adults) with you, a huge 'science is fun' adventure. Lots about nature and ecosystems as well, great views of the Bay.

I went into this 'place' with an expectation to be bored. I was so very very wrong! Over 2 hours we were here with our 7 year old son - who could not help but marvel at everything. Not only is it completely interactive but the whole place is informative. It is an experience not to be missed if visiting... More

This museum has so many exhibits and fun things to do for both children and adults. It was a bit overwhelming. We spent as much time exploring as we could before everyone started getting tired out. We didn't get a chance to see everything on this visit but I'm sure we'll go back again sometime. Just about everything on display... More

I attended an evening event for a work function and it wasn't too crowded so we got to see and touch basically everything. As far as museums go I wouldn't say it is a must see, but if you have kids (I do) and want/need a place to spend some time indoors check it out. Many small exhibits and almost... More

We bought a SF City Pass and this was included in the pass. It has moved location, to pier 15, from the last time I came. It was super crowded because we came over Christmas break. I was surprised at the number of rude children not supervised by parents. I would start doing one of the hands-on exhibits and a... More

This is a place where the exhibits are hands-on experiments, optical illusions, and loads of fun. A place to play, not a place to be a serious adult. Everything engages the visitor. I recommend this place especially for the Tactile Dome! It was strange and disorienting and NOT for the claustrophobic. Unique sensory immersion into a strange and kind of... More

When the weather was rainy on our visit to San Francisco, we spent nearly a whole day here. And we didn't even get to see everything!! There are so many activities and things to learn about that it's entertaining even for adults. Of course the morning was busy with school groups but we did manage to still try a lot... More

Only a few cool spots for older kids! way to crowded as there must have been 20 schools on field trips that day! A little too pricey as well. Only spent about 1 hour there
