One of the best tours I've ever done. Riveting. Really a gripping 45 minute tour. Tip, book and go very early to beat the crowds

Firstly, it is very important to book ticket in advance, otherwise it is a huge problem if you need ticket the same day or for one of coming days. I was lucky to persuade a lady in the office of Hop on- Hop off bus to find me a ticket at least for day-time visit (I was almost crying and... More

This tour includes an audio tour of the cell block which is narrated by ex prison warders and ex cons. Very interesting. You are then free to explore the rest of the island. The boat trip over offers excellent views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Make sure you book your tickets ahead of time. They do sell out , especially in peak season. I have actually been to the island 3 times and always enjoy it. It's a short ferry ride with amazing views of the city and Golden Gate Bridge. And the views are just as good once you're on the island. The audio... More

I love the photo opportunities you get as you ride the boat to Alcatraz. Once on the island the vistas and panoramic views of the city of San Francisco and the bay are spectacular. The beautiful environment makes me appreciate much more that this is a historic site of a prison and state park. I am glad it is not... More

I learned so much about Alcatraz! I highly recommend the "200 Years of Alcatraz" walking tour. We waited around the dock for it to begin, took the tour up (a leisurely pace with lots of stops to take a break and listen) and then ended with the audio tour at the top. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable- he's met with... More

This was the most amazing sightseeing trip! we booked via Alcatraz cruises, the ferry was prompt, and there system to get on board was faultless. Once on the island we made our way to the cell house tour and spent an hour here, then slowly made our way down. This is a must do, the tour gives so much information... More

Alcatraz island is not only good for scenery but also fun experience. The former penitentiary is well reserved. The audio tour is also very informative and provided the history knowledge about the penitentiary. One of the must-visit places in SF!

Myself and my family did the night time tour and it was well worth it. Make sure you book on line 5 weeks out, as tickets are hard if not impossible to get on the day. You can take food and drink to the island, but you cannot eat and drink around the prison, only at the wharf. You can... More
