Solid, challenging but enjoyable hike. Wont kill ya -- but you'll work. Caution on slippery rocks around the stream area. Waterfall is wonderful and it ends with jumping into the water. Careful jumping from too high.. keep in mind you are a long way from...More

We read the reviews before we went but really didn't appreciate just how treacherous and muddy the terrain actually was until we tried it. It hadn't rained in a few days, so we really didn't expect it to be so muddy. I wore hiking sandals...More

My friend and I attempted this hike in the mid morning. It was pretty much abandoned which was nice. The forest was beautiful and the birds were singing. The trail however was extremely muddy and dangerous. We got to a point where you had to...More

Muddy when we went so had to be careful w footing. Definitely take a walking stick or if not look for one that another hiker left behind. Expect to get muddy and no sandals or flip flops! Great views on the way to the destination!...More

I never made it to the falls. After an hour of trudging through thick mud, climbing over roots, slipping, and holding onto vines and trees, and crossing a mid-calf deep stream to walk up the slippery trail we ended up turning around and trying to...More

This was the most adventurous thing we did while in Hawaii. It was rainy and muddy, so a true adventure. I grew up in nature, and I slipped a few times and hurt myself a little, because I stupidly left my hiking shoes at home...More

Back in the day before it was advertised in every "hidden spot" tourist book, Maunawili Falls used to be a lovely place to visit with family and friends. Now it is impossible to go without seeing 50 other people heading to the same little pool....More

As everyone says, it's incredibly muddy. There's no way to avoid your shoes getting pretty muddy, and it's very possible they will be covered in mud or soaked by the end (you have to cross the river a couple times and the rocks are slippery)....More

The information I read said this was a pretty easy hike. I actually wore my flip flops!! What a huge mistake. It was a great hike, but definitely would have been better if it was not our second hike of the day. Oh and if...More

It took a little over an hour each way, plus the time we spent at the falls. I think we were there about 4-5 hours total. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes that don't come off easy - is very muddy.

Like everyone has said, be cautious of open wounds when trekking in the creeks and swimming at the water falls.
