My children and I (who are riders) recently did this trail ride and I was incredibly disappointed. It is not a relaxing ride AT ALL...the horses are either walking gingerly down very steep terrain with slippery rocks/asphalt patches (this was actually very scary as our...More

We had a great ride with this Ranch. There is not a lot of opportunity to run the horses due to the terrain so you go pretty slow the entire time, which was fine by us. The guide did mention that we could run them...More

Had a nice ride this morning despite disorganized start. Told to arrive at 8:45 am but didn’t actually leave the stable area until after 10 am. Seemed like a lot of waiting for them to saddle the horses before guests could get on. Would have...More

This was the most incredible experience for my family....amazing cliffside scenery, lots of different terrain, well-behaved and cared for horses and of course breathtaking ocean views. Our guides told many stories about the land and its history along the way. Barbecue lunch was tasty as...More

This was the best trail ride EVER! The views were absolutely stunning and the cowboys were very knowledgable, informative, funny and entertaining. We did this ride a few weeks ago (end of January) and we saw SO MANY whales breach/active whales. I had only been...More

My family of four (couple and two teens) enjoyed a morning trail ride at the Mendes Ranch. The guides and horses were awesome and the views of the ocean were AMAZING! We thoroughly enjoyed this and highly recommend it while on Maui!

We rode through the Mendes' extensive ranch and had exquisite views of the Pacific Ocean from Maui's East side. We saw several (more than 10) whale spouts, breaches, and tail flaps as we rode along the trail. There were two points where we could gallop,...More

First thing I noticed before the horses were assigned was that the guides all wore spurs. They had to use the spurs to make the horses move. I watched fellow riders dig their heels into the horses flanks to make them move but with no...More

Really glad we went with the Mendes for an amazing horseback ride and afternoon! With many trail rides to choose from on Maui, we researched that some of the companies offering smaller, "custom" rides were illegitimate and actually getting busted while they are out on...More

One of the guides rode his horse so hard, going up and down the line of riders, that the horse became lame and was breathing heavily. Plus, no mandatory helmets. The ride was boring, the horses lethargic.

The last response is correct. Lunch after the morning and before the afternoon ride. Actually, lunch is served at the same time, so morning and afternoon riders can mingle. If you are afternoon rider, you need to think about... More
