The Iao theater on Maui is a national landmark. Local talent lights up the stage on a regular basis. If you have the chance you should catch a show. One caveat - the seats can be a little uncomfortable.

Enjoy the Iao theatre on your next visit to Maui. The theatre is located in Wailuku, and brings back the memories of Hawaiian days gone by. With the charm of an intimate setting, the productions are almost personal in this charming, friendly, clean and local style theatre. Enjoy.

On December 30, 2016, my boyfriend and I attended William Shatner's performance at the Iao Theater. The opening singer was a local young man. He had a pleasant voice and seemed sincere and grateful to be there. Brian Evans was on the bill - very good singer/performer; and, of course, Shatner was awesome. But prior to Evans and Shatner, a... More

An announcement at church prompted us to check out the "Home for the Holidays" musical variety performance staged by an outstanding group of musicians (singers accompanied by John on the piano). It was a Christmas treasure we will never forget. That it was held in the restored 1928 Ioa Theatre in Wailuku made the evening even more special. From the... More

My wife and I had a fun time watching "Boeing Boeing" at this local theater, a live play. This place is small, has a hometown feel and comes with nice restrooms, a concession stand and lots of seating. We had a fun time here. If your in the area, I would recommend watching some of these local actors do their... More

as soon as you see the front of the theatre you can see the balance design of an Art Deco building - I haven't seen much Spanish Art Deco so it was interesting to see the red tiled roof over the entrance - it worked well. Could not see inside as there was nothing showing while we were in the... More

I have attended many shows at the IAO over the years and most are excellent. The theater is small, so regardless of where you are seated, it's easy to see the stage. I've heard several people comment that it can be difficult to hear in certain spots, but have not witnessed this myself. The talent on Maui is top notch,... More

Iao Theater takes you back in time. To when shows had real people doing real plays. It is great fun for all ages. "Opened in 1928, and built in Spanish Mission style, this theater was once the main entertainment venue of the city of Wailuku, on Maui. Besides screening movies, it featured live stage acts, and such stars as Bob... More

Iao Theater has a staff of actors that are top notch. Plays performed are not only professionally done, but settings are unique. Staff is very friendly and each year there are more improvements to the equipment in the theater. Also, one Monday a month, there is a free "reading" which many times is more like a complete production.

Iao Theater is a delightful place to attend plays and stage events. The performances and presenters are very good.
