Quiet and less touristy than the mainstream beaches around Kapalua, this beach offers the best of both worlds: snorkeling and boogie boarding. The beach is best from mid-morning to early afternoon. The enjoyment evaporates when late afternoon winds begin to kick up sand. For boogie boarding, stay to the left (west). For snorkeling, enter the water from the right (east) and make you way to the protected cove just beyond the rocks that stick out above the water. Inside that cove, I saw lots of fish and two sea turtles. If you are a good swimmer, continue beyond the point on the right into Honolua Bay. The downside of this beach is that is has neither restroom facilities, nor a tap to wash your feet when you exit.…

I haven't been for years but used to boogey board there! Great waves but not too big like Makena Beach-neck breaker beach. Not sure if the slippery slope down has been upgraded, my wave riding days are over.

Beautiful beach and an easy walk down the stairs. Although it was windy the day we were there, it was somewhat protected and very enjoyable. Parking could be an issue but we were there when Hawaii had just opened up with it's pretesting program so parking was not a problem.

6 minutes away is its partner, Mokule’ia Bay, with a stunning cast of colorful sea life and an abundance of coral walls and channels. Though clarity is said to be intermittent, the water was translucent when I went, perhaps because no tourists have been in since March. Plenty of shade and soft sand to recover on, because you owe it to yourself to swim as far along the north point as you can ( to your right as you face the ocean). The water gets clearer and clearer, and the coral more profuse. Sure, you could wait around an hour or two to grab a space at Honolua, or you could make better use of your previous down-time.…

Slaughterhouse Beach is, far and away, the best setting for boogie boarding I have ever experienced. Slaughterhouse is right around the corner (literally) from Honokahua Bay, a great spot for snorkeling, and a 10-15 minute drive from the Nakalele Blowhole. You can get to Slaughterhouse in approximately 20 minutes from the Ka’anapali resorts. The water is shallow for quite a distance off the shore, setting up a long runway to board in terms of duration and also sand-free (in your shorts) at the end. The waves are fantastic - easily big enough to give you a thrill but not so huge that they are dangerous. As a 37-year-old, I loved it. At the same time, I saw both adults older than I and young teenagers enjoying themselves. My boogie boarding standard is now Slaughterhouse Beach.…
