Kahanu Garden is one of five locations of the National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG). Kahanu is home to large collections of Breadfruit and other ethno-botanical plants of the pacific as well as Pi'ilanihale Heiau believed to be the largest heiau in The State of Hawaii and a National Historic Landmark.

the grounds are well maintained and there are several native species of plants featured on the approach to the ruins. there is a feeling of deep time here that is hard to express.

We stopped based on the recommendation of the top 10 things to see on the road to Hana. It was a great break from the road and the views of the temple and ocean was worth the price of admission.

While the view of the temple was nice, we went during the self guided days and found the literature lacking depth. If you are going to experience this location I would recommend going on a day with a guided tour.
