It's not exactly a flower garden, so if that's what you're looking for, you might find an alternative. However, I happened to be here when the apple blossoms were blooming and there are a few other flowers depending on when you are here. The apple blossoms were spectacular! If you want to take the time to learn about the plants... More

Lots of information about tropical plants. A beautiful setting to spend a leisurely hour or two. Sadly, not too much information is available about the archeological sites on the property. According to the staff, there isn't all that much known about the sites. Enjoy the plants and a nice walk along the seashore in a beautiful setting.

We actually stopped to see this historic landmark on the way back from Hana and we were glad we did not miss it. The garden is well maintained and has many well labeled native plants (in depth description of plants is in booklet you receive when you pay your entrance fee) The highlight of the garden is the "Pi'ilanihale Heiau".... the grounds are well maintained and there are several native species of plants featured on the approach to the ruins. there is a feeling of deep time here that is hard to express.

We stopped based on the recommendation of the top 10 things to see on the road to Hana. It was a great break from the road and the views of the temple and ocean was worth the price of admission.

It is a bit of a challenge to get to, but well worth the trip down a bumpy road. The garden is beautiful, not only formal garden but a collection of native plants. The temple at one corner is awe-inspiring. Very serene and peaceful as well.

We almost didn't get to go here. It was closed for most of the time we were at Hana because of the rain and the roads are closed. But on the last few days it finally cleared up and we decided to try it before we left Hana. So glad we did! This isn't a garden with tons of exotic... More

Mahalo for sticking it out though the rain and taking the time to visit Kahanu! It's so nice that you mentioned enjoying the Garden even with out the tropical flowers. People are often disappointed that we do not feature more exotic flowers like the red and pink ginger. We have to explain that while those flowers are beautiful, most gingers... More

we stopped on our road to hana trip and this garden was very well taken care of and most plants had genus and species names but not common names. Very cool spot right next to boiling ocean. great views and were impressed with hawiian religous site. Not very good view of the largeness of the temple but this is for... More

Thank you for visiting Kahanu during your trip, we are in a very isolated location so we really appreciate you taking the time to see what we have to offer. We often struggle with what we present of Pi'ilanihale Heiau. We want visitors to Kahanu to be able to see the colossal size of the Heiau but not tempt people... More

We had visited here many years ago and wanted to go back when Hana. So we followed the signs, we passed the Lava Tube site, the tarmac ended, the road deteriorated badly and we turned round. Now either I went wrong or you need faith (or even a sign) that the garden is at the end of the unpaved road-... More

Aloha, We apologize that you were not able to visit us during your trip to Hana. We are the last public access destination on Ulaino Road, there is a sign at the top of the highway, an open closed sign about 1/4 mile down the road and another sign that indicates that we are located 1.5 miles further. We often... More
