We used the 5.00 app as recommended by trip advisor and had an amazing experience. Great views of the canyon and several opportunities to jump out of the car and hike for a bit. Be sure you have water in your car, as even in the winter season this can be warm. Easy low key morning or afternoon!

My wife and I hadn't visited this canyon in 34 years, so it was a great treat to go back and to check out all the vista's and beauty of this unique place on the island. Would really recommend going in the morning, and first going all the way to the end of the park to get the vista's of... More

We actually visited the Canyon two days. We enjoyed views from the the lookouts and took a nice hike one day. But the view at the top was fogged in, so we came back another day and were treated to a lovely panoramic view. Living in the Pacific NW I am pretty spoiled with great views, but this is still... This canyon is stunning... and easy to access since the lookout is accessible via a paved road. Also, the path to the viewing platform is ADA accessible which is so nice that something this beautiful can be seen by everyone. We continued up hwy 550 to the end for the road for two more lookouts. If you have time, don't... More

We have to come back (twice) because of weather conditions. Our first attempt to see the canyon was stopped by heavy rainstorms, the second one by low clouds/mist. Anyway, the third visit finally proves what was expected - awesome views and wonderful nature. Definitely highlight of our Kauai trip! I would recommend you to stay either in Waimea or close... You can take a drive right up to the look out and see an amazing canyon with lots of color and see a two tiered waterfall.

There aren't photos that will do this place justice. I've been a lot of cool places but have never seen views like this. If you come to this island, you must visit this canyon. Is the road a little rough in some spots? Yes. Could the facilities use a little maintenance here and there? Maybe. If you have travelled halfway... More

We drove ourselves to the top the Waimea Canyon Lookout. The view was spectacular and worth the drive. The road is winding and a little narrow in places, but it is a beautiful drive and then you get to the lookout and walk to the top for a great view. We declined to drive the rest of the road because... More

You don`t actually use a 4WD anywhere in Kauai unless you think you're going way off road with a guide...certainly not up to the furthest lookout in Waimea Canyon. Take the chance if it's cloudy. It changes a lot.

What a beautiful drive. The drive was not near as bad as people said. The views were better than people said. The hike was not as bad as people said- the mud did not jump up at us and cover us with red dirt. Even thought it had rained and it was cloudy we just waited for the clouds to... More
