About
Princeville Botanical Gardens is a family owned and operated garden paradise located in the Princeville area on the magnificent north shore of Kauai. Established by The Robertson Family with the help of their close gardening friend Michael in 2001, this 9-acre property has been transformed into a breathtaking garden with dramatic landscaping in two steep valleys. The tour includes homegrown honey and fruit samples, as well as a chocolate tasting that teaches you the history of chocolate making. You'll have fun learning about the uses and folklore of native Hawaiian plants and exotic species from around the world. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. Visitors can experience the garden on pre-scheduled tours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Tours are not recommended for children under 6 years. Moderate mobility is needed to go on our nature walk. Please be sure to call us before visiting. Thank you!

Beautiful garden tour
May 2021
After many trips to Kauai we finally did this tour and it was very interesting to learn about the plants that were either brought to Kauai or were indigenous to the island. Donna, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and we were treated to various fruits, honey, chocolates all the way along the 3 hour tour. The pace was perfect and all 3 of us enjoyed the gardens.

Being on the land and learning about it - plus chocolate!
May 2021
The Princeville Botanical Gardens occupy a beautiful piece of land. It is so very peaceful. Donna, our guide, enthusiastically shared her knowledge of how the gardens came to be as well as the origin of the plants in the space, few of which are indigenous to Kauai. The pace was easy and the landscape not treacherous in the main. And yes, you are treated to a tasting of quality chocolate from several growing regions around the world.

Serene and educational + tasty chocolate!
May 2021
Beautiful gardens, immaculately presented. Serene and tranquil - we could have stayed and wandered all day. Lovely walking paths with some walkways suitable for different levels of fitness (some flat, some steep, etc.) Many places to sit, both chairs and rocks/logs, which made for nice short rests. The tour was informative and the guide very friendly and knowledgeable about many of the plants. The pace of the tour was nice - she kept it moving, but also stopped along the way for short fruit tastings or to provide some commentary. You did not feel like you were rushing and you really got to enjoy everything. The bulk of the tour is in the shade, so it is not too hot. My husband, who is NOT a plant guy, said he thought it was one of the best activities we did on the island. The chocolate tasting was a nice touch and did actually teach us a thing or two about chocolate growing and manufacturing. I do wish more of the chocolate tasted was from Hawaii - most was not.

Great tour

It was a great tour. Absolutely worth the high price tag. The tour had something new to see and learn ever minute. Chocolate tasting was the icing on the cake along with tasting a few seasonal fruits.

Beautiful and interesting
May 2021
I found the Princeville Botanical Garden tour by accident and signed up to go and it was well worth the time and money. The garden is full of beautiful and interesting plants. The tour includes fruit and honey samples, as well as the opportunity to sample different dark chocolates and hear about how the process to make them varies, but the flowers and other plants were the real stars of the show. The guide was knowledgeable and made sure to answer questions as well as add interesting side notes. A very fun and educational morning!

Donna was great but not the other guide

Skip the line is non existent! I had my QR Code and all requirements were in order but still had to wait in a line to check in. Still don’t know what skip the line means at this place. Was sitting in a chair with my husband up front for the chocolate tasting. We were very hot and sweaty, so we were very glad to be seated under a canopy. However when another group joined us, their tour guide made us move to the very back and change seats with people from her tour. She wasn’t very considerate towards us as the people said they were fine where they were at and didn’t need to move. However, she made us move for “social distancing” and her people. Our new seats in the sun at the very back and were set up with the exact distancing as the ones up front we were forced to leave. There was truly no need to embarrass and making us uncomfortable by making us move. I was so upset by her rudeness that a great experience was ruined by one inconsiderate tour guide.
