The staff here were very good with children and super friendly. There are binoculars you can borrow at the buiding to the left of the light house. The views are great.

We love nature photography and birding, so we put the NWR high on our list. Unfortunately the weather (high winds and surf) did not offer us many chances to see birds nearby. Many were sitting in trees on the cliffs and not very active. We...More

Small entrance fee of $5 per adult, but you get in free with a National park pass, which most vacationers to the island leave at home! Nice place to watch the birds. Great whale watching place in the winter months. Tours inside the light house...More

This is a great spot for photos of the island and the lighthouse. TONS of birds in the surrounding area and a very knowledgeable volunteer staff to answer your seabird inquiries. The only downside is that your kids will hit about the fifteen-minute mark and...More

There is very little parking here so you might have to around a bit to find a spot. The view of the sea, the lighthouse and the birds is splendid. From this spot, you would take a narrow road toward the lighthouse itself. We thought...More

This spot is absolutely worth the drive up to the north shore! We saw so many birds that we had never seen before, including a couple of albatross, which is what we most wanted to see! The birds are so abundant here, and the views...More

We made a quick stop before we left the island and so glad we did! It was an absolutely stunning view! Yes, birds galore, beautiful blue water, waves crashing against the rugged coastline! The lighthouse off in the distance. We stopped at the first view...More

The birds here I have never seen in person before- they were incredible and so abundant. The staff were helpful- but not as friendly as hoped for. When enquiring about the birds they were short and didn't seem to want to share their avian expertize...More

Let me change that answer. That is for the Kilauea Lighthouse. The wildlife refuge isn't really a place you go into. It defines an area around the lighthouse. So it is always open to the birds, and you can come anytime... More
