I'm a gardening nut, so I try to see local gardens when I travel. LImahuli is special because 90% of the plants and trees in Kauai are not indigenous - they were brought over by settlers and travelers. This garden is small, easily walked by...More

This is a pleasant and informative garden that you can do on a self guided our. The sea views alone are worth it!

The woman who sold us our tickets told us an 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The self guided tour has 42 stops. Allow more time if you are actually going to see everything. This is a unique and beautiful garden and worth your time.

Worth the money! I think it was about $20/adult. Amazing views of the "Bali hai" formation at end of the Hanalei Bay. Spectacular and sadly rare botanic gems are preserved in paradise in this amazing landscape. For the nerdy horticulture lovers, there are plenty of...More

Self guided tour of splendid lush garden. Allow about 90 minutes. Ask about the 1 year membership program. It gets you free admissions to the wonderful McBryde Garden and 15% off Allerton guided day tours or 50% off guided night tours.

My wife and I visited these gardens 20 years ago on our honeymoon. They have dramatically improved and expanded the gardens since then. I very much like the self guided tour; excellent brochure and most of the plants identified.

Walk at your own pace, 3/4 mile loop with lots of signage explaining the various native and non-native plants and a little about their history and uses (and scarcity, in many cases). Lovely, easy walk and spectacular views of the mountains and north shore. They...More

Spent a lovely afternoon exploring this historic garden. The $20 entrance fee for a self guided tour was well worth the money. Nice booklet leads you through the garden explaining the historical significance of this ancient native settlement as well as descriptions of the terrain...More

Very different from Allerton and McBryde gardens on south side of island, but is well preserved/refurbished ancient traditional Hawaiian garden is a truly awesome setting. Self guided tour, which can be done in about an hour.

You might want to go to their sister garden in the southern part of the island. It's the NTBS Allerton Garden. It's a lovely stroll as the gardens were planted by the Allerton's as outdoor rooms. Perfect for the entire... More

The walk is not difficult and there are some stairs built in where the path gets a bit steep. There are benches along the way to rest and also cold water at several stops. You can go at your own pace which makes it... More
